Abusive language is a natural part of Chinese vocabulary. The history of Chinese abusive language is very long. This thesis is mainly on two aspects of Chinese abusive language. Firstly, it portrays a brief history of ancient Chinese abusive language which emerged in pre-Qin period, developed in Qin and Han Dynasties, grew in Three Kingdoms to the Northern and Southern Dynasties, multiplied in Sui and Tang Dynasties, varied in Song and Yuan Dynasties, and flooded in Ming and Qing Dynasties. Secondly, based on the achievements in abusive language research field, this thesis gives a few new creative viewpoints on explaining the original meanings of some abusive words, and tries to give new explanations on Chinese abusive language from sociological and cultural points of view. This thesis especially gives some new viewpoints on ancient Chinese theories of human nature by explaining the kind of abusive language which abuses human as animals, and on sexism in ancient China by explaining the abusive language on females. Besides, this thesis also gives some parts on abusive action research.
