With the growing of domestic and overseas Chinese teaching, teachers become the key factor to influence the development of Chinese teaching. After analyzing the Chinese teaching situations and the needs for Chinese teachers, researchers focus on the problems of teachers'quality and quan-tity. Researchers want to know how to train and evaluate teachers effec-tively to guarantee the quality and the quantity of teachers.The definition of teacher's knowledge and abilities is the premise of teacher's training and evaluation research,however, the literature review shows a serious situation. Theoretic method is the main method used in these researches. However, the complexity of knowledge and competence predetermines that the research should be conducted multi-dimensionally and research methods in various fields should be borrowed.Based on the literature review, this research uses the research methods and the research results on teachers'training from the field of Education and Psychology to discuss the structure of knowledge and abilities of Chinese teachers who teaching foreigners.From a micro perspective, this research interviewed several teachers and used the qualitative methods to discuss the knowledge and abilities needed in teaching and the changing and developing process of knowl-edge and abilities. In order to get the views of experienced teachers from the macro perspective, the researcher designs a questionnaire for the structure of knowledge and abilities of Chinese teachers who teach for-eigners and discussed structure of the teacher's knowledge and abilities based on the survey.Based on the literature review, the qualitative research and the result of the survey, the researcher argues that the formation of knowledge and abilities is dynamic, and is based on practice and individuality. In the re-search of knowledge structure, according to the result of the survey, the structure of knowledge has been concluded as the pyramidal structure. From the bottom to the top, according to the level of importance, the structure of knowledge is divided into basic knowledge, helpful knowl-edge, important knowledge and key knowledge. In terms of content, knowledge can be divided into content knowledge, the knowledge about learners, the general teaching knowledge and the knowledge of teaching Chinese to foreigners. The knowledge of teaching Chinese to foreigners is the practical knowledge based on the other three. In the research of structure of abilities, after the analysis and the induction of the research results, the abilities of teachers who teach Chinese to foreigners are di-vided into the general abilities, the classroom teaching abilities of teach-ing Chinese to foreigners, the judgment abilities of teaching Chinese to foreigners and the design abilities of teaching Chinese to foreigners. Be-sides, the instruction abilities of teaching Chinese to foreigners can be di-vided into the communication abilities, the instruction abilities of teach-ing Chinese to foreigners and the organization and management abilities.The analysis and the induction of the structure of teacher's knowledge and abilities is the basis for the discussion of teachers training and evalua-tion. Practicability is the core characteristic of the knowledge and abilities of teachers who teach Chinese to foreigners, and this influences the teach-ers studying that it has the characteristics of combining with practice, continuously reflecting and combining with teaching situations. These characteristics also influence the teachers training, the teaching of practi-cal knowledge and abilities should be strengthened except for the basic knowledge teaching. The feasibility of case teaching method and micro teaching method used in the training of teachers who teach Chinese to foreigners are discussed. In the evaluation research, after the comprehen-sive comparisons of evaluation system of teachers who teaching Chinese to foreigner and combining the discussion of teachers'abilities, this re-search propose and explain the can-do evaluation system centered on classroom teaching. The qualification test of teachers who teach Chinese to foreigners is another topic in evaluation research. Based on the litera-ture review of the qualification test of teachers who teach Chinese to for- eigners and other second language teachers qualification test, this re-search suggests that the future qualification of teachers who teaching Chi-nese to foreigners should based on the teachers occupational knowledge and abilities and be combined with teaching practice.The knowledge and abilities are a complicated and arduous research problem. This research is a preliminary discussion of it. And more re-searchers are showing their interest in this area. Meanwhile, because of the time and outlay limits, the depth of the discussion and the research methods have been limited, therefore, this research will be followed by more discussions and concerns in the future.
