The study of teacher cognition is a new research direction in language teaching. In2003, Simon Borg presented the integrated conception of teacher cognition, whichcan be referred to a variety of teachers’ teaching practices (such as decision-making,teaching interaction, classroom management, etc.), as well as the relationship betweenteaching practice and teacher cognition. In this thesis, the author first reviews theorigin and development of the foreign teacher cognition and summarizes the currentdomestic research achievement in this field. Because the author is both a TCSLgraduate student and Volunteer Chinese teacher, this experience makes the authorchoose the Volunteer Chinese teacher as the research object. The author interviewedtwenty volunteers, analyzed the result and gave recommendations accordingly. With the further development and promotion of Chinese language, a growingnumber of Volunteer Chinese teachers will go around the world to teach Chinese anddisseminate Chinese culture. Due to the limitation of the author’s personal capacity, the thesis is superficial, but I hope that through the writing of this thesis, more peoplecan research the volunteer teachers’ teacher cognition and this will provide moremeaningful references to the professional development of the volunteer teachers.
