This essay study on the special pronunciations of Chinese words in the ancientbooks. These special pronunciations are not fit in with the pronunciation regularpatterns and pronunciation standards of Chinese. Chinese special pronunciations havevery many causes which are surpluses resulted in the history of Chinese development.Some of the special pronunciations have become useful ingredients by given themcertain new meanings and usages. Otherwise some surpluses(residues) of these specialpronunciations are only the unnecessary elements in Chinese which are must to becleaned away.The Chinese special pronunciations are a phenomenon of Chinese formed in thelong-term development which contain rich and complex Chinese developing or usingregulations and Chinese culture. The special pronunciations involve some essentialfactors of language such as speech sound words grammar meaning and sue oflanguage. It is an exception of regulations of language development and usage. Theexception tests the regulation. The exceptions of language are an important clue oflanguage research. The special pronunciations of modern Chinese are produced in thehistory. By study this topic we can supply some references to the research of Chinesehistory and the Modern standard Mandarin Speech.This essay attempt to probe in the causes and appeareing time of specialpronunciations on the studies of people of former times by methods of KaoGu (考古)and SuYuan (溯源), reveal the language phenomena and regulations contained in theChinese special pronunciations by the modern linguistic theories, provide somereferences to the theories and practices of Chinese speech sound standardization.This dissertation consists of ten parts:1.intrpduction;2.the causes and the times ofChinese special pronunciation appear;3.the special pronunciations in dictionaries;4.thespecial pronunciations of proper nouns; 5. study on the PoDu(破读); 6.study onJiaJie(假借) in the ancient books;7, the special pronunciations caused by the form ofChinese characters; 8. study on rhymes of ancient poems;9, study of the specialpronunciations in the ancient books and modern Chinese speech soundstandardization; 10.conclusion.
