Translation is an Cross-Cultural Communication event, that involves language as well as culture. The purpose of translation is to establish cultural equivalence between the source text and the target text. In fact, translation enhances the vital linguistic and cultural link between persons and communities of varied races, cultures and languages. However, the ways of thinking, attitudes, beliefs and values of different nations not only give rise to failures or misunderstandings in transculturation, but also pose many difficulties to the translators. To those whose interest is in the comparative studies of literature, an importante topic for study is the cultural value of literary translation.Therefore, this thesis attempts, in the intercultural perspective, to explore the inherent connection and the Sino-Portuguese cultural differences through the Portuguese version of Padre Joaquim Angélico de Jesus Guerra, S. J. on romantic poems (refer to the love poem and the marriage poem) of "The Book of Songs". In this thesis, for the reason of providing more detailed explanation, the examples from Chinese-Portuguese or English-Portuguese are also extracted from the romantic poems. The whole thesis consists mainly of four parts. The preface introduces the theme, motivation, object, significance, rang, methodology, etc. The first chapter focuses on the analysis of literary translation and includes two sections. These sections aims to explore the attitude of a translator and his methodology of translation and the skill of literary translation. The second chapter, describes the characteristic of literary translation in romantic poems of "The Book of Songs". There are two sections in this chapter. These two sections make the comparative studies in literary form and aesthetic sense on the source text and the translated version of romantic poems of "The Book of Songs". Then, with this as the basis, the third chapter explains the phenomenon in literary translation. This chapter contains two sections, concerning with the ancient Chinese culture in love and marriage, phenomenon of cultural presuppositions, psychology of western missionary in translating the classic Confucian books, translatability of Portuguese version, translational misreading between different nations, interactive relationship of Sino-Western intercultural communication, etc. At the end of the thesis, a conclusion is made to rethink the significance of the Portuguese version on romantic poems of "The Book of Songs", and to find out the way torward the development of literary translation in Chinese-Portugese and Portuguese-Chinese.
