In this dissertation an attempt is made to explore the relations between the overseasChinese communities and the Chinese Empire Reform Party(Baohuang Dang) in the UnitedStates of America in the early 20th century, which includes both a comparatively detailed andsystematic argument on the Baohuang Dang's activities in the overseas Chinese communities inthe U.S., and an exploration on how and why the rise and fall of Baohuang Dang's activitiestaken place in the U.S., based on a lot of the first-hand historical materials, and thereby, my ownopinions on some questions are raised.At first, this dissertation looks back on the history of overseas Chinese migration to theU.S., for the sake of understanding the background and origin of the Baohuang Dang's existencein the U.S. It holds that the basic conditions for the party politics have come into being in 1890s,because of the development of American overseas Chinese organizations. The increasinganti-Chinese forces gave a strong shock to the overseas Chinese communities, which arousedtheir powerful patriotic emotions, and also provided a good opportunity for the emergence ofsuch political parties as Baohuang Hui and Xingzhong Hui. Then, this dissertation analyzes theprocess of the establishment of Chinese Empire Reform Association in Canada endeavored byKang Youwei and Liang Qichao, and focuses a discussion on why Baohuang Dang expandedrapidly its influence in the U.S., and afterward took America as the centre of overseas"Baohuang Movement", and how Baohuang Dang's important actions taken in the U.S. weresupported by overseas Chinese over there.This dissertation lays an emphasis on the analysis of the international business companiesrun by Baohuang Dang and their passive influence on their political undertaking. Thisdissertation gives a detailed introduction to the cooperation between the Baohuang Dang and theRevolutionary Party headed by Sun Yet-sen, to the split between the both parties, and to theircontest for winning the overseas Chinese communities. Finally, this dissertation puts forward itsviewpoints about the motives of the active participation of the American oversea Chinese in thedomestic political organizations, as well as the historical reasons of the Baohuang Dang's failurein the U.S.
