It is much less concerned on Timor in the Southeast Asia studies. As bothTimor and Macao were the oriental settlements of Portugal, there is close relationshipbetween the two places. There were frequently communications during the 16th to the19th century, including the intensive exchanges on economy, politics, religions andculture. It is less concerned on the study of the relationship between Macao and Timorin the academia. This dissertation aims to discuss some problems referring to therelationship between the two places in that time with full use of a great number ofChinese and overseas archives and documents. Most of the resources are Portuguesedocuments. The historical meaning of Macao and Timor's relationship in the longhistory of the Chinese people's development is also demonstrated in this dissertation.And Timor's actual situation is also concerned. This dissertation is divided to severalparts: Firstly, to introduce the research condition on this subject in domestic andoverseas areas; Secondly, the general introduction of Timor, especially the geographyand history; Thirdly, the relationship between Macao and Timor; Fourthly, theeconomical exchanges between Macao and Timor; Fifthly, the religions relationbetween Macao and Timor; Sixthly, the cultural communications between Macao andTimor; Finally, the conclusion of the dissertation.
