Japanese Modern Fiction Translation

The flushing translation of modern Japanese novels in China has swayed a far-reaching influence upon the modern and current novels in China, enriched the literary exchange between China and Japan, therefore it deserves a research. The author, guided by the theories of the Cultural School in Translation, conducts an indepth research upon the Chinese translation of modern Japanese novels, from macro and micro perspectives, with a method of both diachronic and synchronic comparison.The disertation consists of 6 parts. The introduction gives out the reasons why the author chose the topic, reference summary; theoretical basis, research methods and its significance. It also emphosizes the great importance that the Cultural School in -Translation has on the disertation. The first chapter reviews the Chinese translation of modern Japanese novels, and reveals that the translation has swayed a great influence upon Chinese literature in lexicography, concept, form, themes, and so on, thus provides a macro background and a basis for the disertation. From countless examples, the author selected 3 to conduct detailed case studies by using Even Zohar's and Lefevere's translation theories.In the second chapter, after a summary of the translation of Rasyomon in both Taiwan and the mainland, the author mainly compared the 2 translations of Lu Xun and Lin Shaohua, discussed the strategic differences between the 2 translations. With this as the basis, the author used Even Zohar's multi-system theory, that is, the status of national literature determines the choice of translation strategy. And then the author pointed out the translator's positioning of his national literature can also influence the choice of translation strategy. Despite of some defects of the multi-system theory, it expands indeed the range of literary translation studies, and brings forth the Cultural School in Translation introduced by Lefevere, therefore leads us to pay more attention to the influences on translation caused by cultural facts behind texts.In the third chapter, the author first analyzes the translation and the acception of Our Time, then compares the difference in sexual discription between Zhen Minqin's translation and the original. Finally, under the guidance of Lefevere's re-writing theory, the author conducts a historical and objective research on Zhen Minqin's translation strategies from the perspective of morality by placing the translation in the great social and cultural backgrounds. The author, thus, obtains a profound knowledge about literary translation, that is, the external cultural factors exerts a relative influence on translation, and we should conducts research from both external and internal factors, and should not neglect the noumenon research.In the fourth chapter, the author first summarizes the translation history of Norwegian Wood in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the mainland, then compares the translations of Lin Shaohua and Lai Mingzhu, thus points out that the translator's knowledge background and translation view have a great influence upon his translation strategy, and even determines the effect of the translation, and the performance of the translator's subjectivity is closely related with the translation's fate. Today while the translation studies is prevailed by the cultural turn, we should not only note the influences that external factors have on translation strategies, but also advocate the performance of translator's subjectivity, so as to compensate the shortcomings resulted by the cultural school's neglectance of translator's subjectivity.In the conclusion part, the author points out the Chinese translation of modern Japanese novels is a co-effect of external and internal factors, namely of the translator and external cultural factors. Therefore, when we conduct the research, we should combine the internal factors, for instance, the translator, with the external factors, including morality, culture and so on, at the same time we should not neglect the noumenon research of language analysis.
