The dissertation aims to analyze wholly woodcut limited into the time and place of anti- Japanese war and the rear area to probe into its era features and cultural contents ,in the light of Chinese standard culture and with the research methods of history ,art and sociology .on the other hand the dissertation attempts to bring to light the unity of the world ,the nationality and the area during the development of woodcut, the mutual effect of society and culture and the dialectical relations between utilitarianism and artistry under the collision of artistic self-discipline and social external force.The dissertation falls into five chapters and carries out the vertical and horizontal research into the occur of the new Chinese woodcut ,the development and establishment of woodcut centers in the rear area , the creation thoughts in the rear area and the spread and the contributions to the anti- Japanese war.The twenties of the 20th century saw the left wing movement of arts and crafts in china ,which is influence by the soviet Marxism view of literature and art as well as Japanese left wing literary and artic theories The left wing pays close attention to the tragic lives of the common people and the artists sympathizes with their sufferings and sing the praises of their awaking ,which with doubt opens up the new knowledge for arts.It is ever typical of the left wing movement of arts to closely combine social revolution and practical struggle, show solicitude for the fate of the country and nationality and search for the way to the artic popularity Most of the left wing artic societies before anti Japanese war are of art students and young engraver ,whom , driven by high revolutionary warmth ,called for arts as weapons for proletariat revolution in public opinion and earnestly practiced what on preaches to create propaganda paintings for mass societies ,oil-printed pictorials and took frequent part in writing slogans ,distributing leaflets and holding demonstrations ,and they combined closely arts with revolutionary struggle but also adored the latter.Lu Xun is the standard -bearer of the May 4th new cultural movement but also the initiator and instructor of left wing arts and crafts movement ,whose creation emphasis shifted quickly to woodcut paintings under his initiation .the work focus of the left wing societies was put on the propaganda of anti- Japanese salvation with the current situations development in the early and middle of the thirties of the 20th century.China was disaster-ridden in the 20th century .Lu Xun that always ventured to transform old society ,cry out and fight for the country and face up to bleeding practiced what on preaches to widely initiate ,foster and cultivate new Chinese woodcut and carried out the woodcut movement in devotion to reality ,with his intense feeling of national responsibilities and excellent artic views and sights in the times of dangers and salvation of the country and the mass' terrible misery , the artic form of great vitality began to appear on the historical stage of Chinese revolution struggle ,and from then on it has been closely related to and sharing joys and sorrows with Chinese revolution cause and the fate of the countryThe july the 7th gunshot of lugou bridge broke the situation with Shang Hai ,Bei King,Guang Zhou ,Hang Zhou etc as the arts centre and developed the woodcut center of the rear area with Chong Qing as the pivot and the woodcut center of the liberating area with Yan An as the strongpointThe shaping up of the woodcut center of the rear area is not occasional but historically inevitable .Many rear area cities are located in the south west of china ,which is heavily mountainous and winding rivers .from the ancient times many nationalities have been living here and created unique and glorious civilizations with their qualities of fierceness , valour and vigour ,hardworking and insistency Si Chuan is famous as the land of heaven with favorite weather ,rich production and deeply cultural details , which is equipped with excellent advantages for cultivating arts crafts After the break out of anti Japanese war, Chong Qing became the war -time capital and the vital organs of war-time culture with the westward moving of the national politics ,military .economy and culture, the shifting of colleges of arts and crafts ,artic intellectuals and woodcut organizations.Scientific, popular and nationalization constitute the three key contents of woodcut ideas guiding artistic creation in the area under KMT rule during the War of Resistance Against Japan. They are dialectical unity, complement each other, Scientific is not only the scientific of techniques, but also the scientific of the subject, create forms and other ways of thinking and understanding. If woodcut artists are unable to correctly understand and grasp the reality of life, they will not depict the life and ideals of the public correctly. Scientific is the basic techniques to achieve popular and nationalization; popular is the destination of nationalization, nationalization is manifestations of popular; Nationalization is not only a formality, but also the content. Scientific, popular and nationalization worked together to build an art trends including characteristics of the times and rich cultural content, and inherited and developed the progressive proposition of new art movement in the war period.Under the anti-Japanese national united banner, the artists between the area under KMT rule and the liberated area, came from different political regions, had never been stopped cultural exchanges by war. In such exchanges, artists not only showed artistic achievements and artistic characteristics of the area under KMT rule and the liberated area, but also issued common cry for their national liberation war under the great banner for the anti-Japanese and national salvation, reached a realistic consensus the development of national art.Chinese woodcut art during the war followed the revolutionary traditions which were formed since the day woodcut was born. Through the survival and salvation revolutionary will and realism creative concept, it supported the war, and made a positive contribution. The specific performances are as follows: 1.being the revolutionary weapons of propaganda, battles and education; 2 easing woodcut art difficulties during the war; 3, promoting the woodcut arts education development in schools; 4, establishing a new realism art concept, leading the entire art direction in the post-war. While the wood-art services in the war, woodcut art in China, in wartime, had found it's soil and air.In this paper, new woodcut is the most important form of art in the 20th Century of China, is a kind of art which most consciously make popular and nationalization to be more extensive and deep. It embodies a high degree of unity between "revolutionary art" and "artistic revolution": New Realism is the summary and development of theory and practice of the new "artistic revolution" in the war period of which science and democracy are the core; besides, it completed the "revolutionary art" historical mission under scientific, popular and nationalization, and stipulated, led the whole art developments of the post-war.
