At the beginning of the eighties since last century, rock music has already been in China for nearly 30 years which is an important kind of pop music. With the development of society, rock music highlights its own characteristic in China. On the ground of the ethnomusicology approach and a plenty of fieldwork, it was carried on the detailed argumentation such as the historical development, representative figure, social situation and culture value to the Chinese rock music.The thesis divides into four chapters besides the preface, the conclusion and the reference:The chapter one mainly concentrates on the explanation of the Chinese rock music historical development process correctly. During the development of Chinese rock music, a series of changes have taken place in such aspects as music style, artistic expression, social situation, culture function after 30 years. This chapter is divided into three parts and described these changes and characteristics altogether. Combining the time turning as the main clue with the social development background, I orientate the historical development of the Chinese rock music on three different historical periods, which are the production or initial period in 1980s, and the continuation development in early 1990s and the new development in the end of 1990s. The Chinese rock music successively demonstrated different cultural characteristics during these three different historical stages. In the first historical stage, the Chinese rock music appeared in first group of "mainstays", as one of the new music culture phenomenon, rock music itself piece embody spontaneous, recreational important characteristic. In the second historical stage, the Chinese rock music not only moves towards specialization in the artistic respect of the music gradually, but also begins to introduce the commercialized mechanism in such aspects as operation way of the band. In the third historical stage, with the establishment of numerous record companies, media communication, arrangement of commercial performance, the Chinese rock music has been already from developing early to the double social culture identity that combine with the commerciality, marketability spontaneously, recreationally, and has already stepped into the development path of industrialization.The focus that chapter two pays close attention to is a representative figure of the Chinese rock music—Cui Jian. For the analyze culture of this typical person rock on the basis that its personal interview materials and other relevant culture incidents analyze correctly. For the "Individual creation and experience", Cui Jian has been insisting on the development in the Chinese rock music all the time. He produced the incomparable impetus to the development of the Chinese rock music in different periods by the practical action. I would also regard pop festival in Beijing of 2007 and solo-concert of Cui Jian in Beijing of 2008 as the representatives of embodiments. The program recording the whole performance in detail is arranged, stage performance, the audience's detailed conditions of on-the-spot behavior and other relevant factors of singer and band. Promote as one ceremony scene that "allow religion" to two rock description of performance these, and to form the stage, auditorium and audience, song fan and performer with singer culture that "signify symbol" of ceremony analyze foundation, I sum up the important characteristic of the rock scene as "the fanaticism of the colony", they have finished a ceremony of revolting with this kind of " fanaticism of the colony" with various "hyper-normal behaviors " among on "holding a memorial ceremony for the platform".Some explanation about the culture of the Chinese rock music was in chapter four. Combine rock music in China particular cultural environment of development, summarize three composition concrete characteristic factor demonstrate these separately at the same time -Involvement of the traditional musical instrument, "pre-warning" of "fanaticism of the colony" and lyrics and I am although not according to the traditional "give a definition" mode, While the author regarded rock music as a kind of culture item, in the cultural function still in another festivals is dissected. Combining the train of thought of development of the Chinese rock music, the view of insider and analysis of rock scene, some different respect were summarized, aesthetic function ,"ceremonied" function and commercial value etc.In additional, "fieldwork" of urban-ethnomusicology becomes important research approach in the paper. Compare the research to other traditional music or folk music, the "informer" and "field" has been enhanced to the new meaning accordingly to work in the field to regard Chinese rock music as the research object.
