A New Comment On The Local Novel By Shi Tuo

Shi Tuo creates 271 literary works including the novel, the prose, the play, the poetry, in which the local novel has the most quantity and the influence. However Shi Tuo is nameless in the Chinese modern history of literature. Many history of literature works perhaps keeps silent to Shi Tuo, perhaps regards him as Beijing style writer in a word. While Scholars don't agree with each other in"whether the Beijing style"in the reseach of Shi Tuo. Liu Xiwei commends the local novel by Shi Tuo has"the unusual style", however 70 years have passed by, and nobody can explain clearly"the unusual style". In the 1980s, Xia Zhiqing and Hu Qiaomu recommend the local novel by Shi Tuo , but Shi Tuo is nameless until now. These questions show that Shi Tuo meets"cold"not because of its artistic achievement insufficient, but because of its novel's particularity, and because of the particular relationship between Shi Tuo and the 20th century China literary criticism standard and the cultural space. Therefore, researching the local novel can not only answer Shi Tuo research's question, but also find some questions in the 20th century history of Chinese literature and culture.This essay respectively take the Chinese modern local novel tradition, Chinese modern literature, the Chinese contemprary culture space as the coordinate system, explains all of local novel by Shi Tuo ,analyzes the illogical reseach in order to expose the individuality of the local novel by Shi Tuo and localize him in the history of Chinese Morden Literature. This article is divided four chapter.The duty of the first chapter is to expose the individuality of the local novel by Shi Tuo. Former research draws conclusion through comparing the local novel by Shi Tuo with"the Beijing style","the left wing",which results in arguments about"whether Beijing style". This essay avoids this way, and pulls back the vision to the Chinese modern local novel tradition. Firstly, the duty is not to indicate that the local novel by Shi Tuo can be explained in some theory, but to indicate that it can not be explained reasonably in some theory ,and in the past of 70 years, some works be disregarded directly by the misregistration. This chapter compares Shi Tuo with Lu Xun, Can Xue, and Kafka and analyzes the relationship between Shi Tuo and the cultural environment. The research discovers that Shi Tuo'existentialism is not belong to"the outstanding person", that is why his existentialism only in the local novel creation, not in the intellectual novel creation. this is his deeper spiritual meet with the West,and is unique contribution to the Chinese modern culture.
