A Study Of The Harmony Of Group Cultures In Transitional Period

Our country has entered a crucial stage of modernization and development. Great changes are taking place in economic structure, the pattern of social interests, the structure of society and people's notions. The society is undergoing a great transformation. On the other hand, in the period of transformation, the structure of society is in disorder, social problems increase, social risks arise and social order can be easily upset. How to make the transformation of society smooth, how to push forward sustainable development, how to promote the development of the people in the process and how to make use of culture in the modernization drive become the urgent issues our country is faced with. Contradictions among the people are becoming more serious, and more and more problems are appearing between different social groups. There are serious contradictions between groups such as farmers and citizens, the poor and the rich, cadres and common people. New ways must be found out to deal with these contradictions. According to some surveys, cultural factors such as values play an important role in causing such contradictions. Therefore, to deal with those contradictions among the people from the perspective of culture and group culture is highly relevant and pragmatic.Based on the reality of the relationship among the different groups and their respective cultures, this article focuses on the question of harmony among different group cultures in the transitional period and aims to provide, both on the basis of theory and practice, some constructive suggestions to the solution of the contradictions among people in the new period. On the other hand, this kind of study will not only shed light to the construction of the socialist culture of harmony, give practical backup for the building of the harmonious society and have referential value for the cultural modernization of our nation and the development of the people.Generally speaking, the question of the harmony of the group cultures is almost an untouched area, which makes this article possible. Considering the reality, this article probes into the reasons behind, analyzes what such harmony should be like and gives some practical suggestions on how to turn the ideas into reality. Based on the definition of concepts related to the harmony of the group cultures, this article takes the following issues into consideration:First, a general survey of the ideas on the harmony of group cultures in history. Though there are not any concepts or descriptions directly linked to the above-mentioned issue, the reflections upon it are numerous in the rich resource of human thinking. This article selects a few philosophers who contributed a lot in this area, and gives a historical account from three angles, that is, the study on the harmony of group cultures in China, in the west and Marxist theory upon this issue. The aim of this account is to provide theoretical basis and logical starting point for the study of the harmony of group cultures in the transitional period.Second, this paper analyzes in detail the status of the group culture relationship during the transformation period. Based on the judgment of the importance of group relation and group culture relationship, this paper selects three pairs of relationship as its studying objects: the relationship between the group culture of farmers and that of citizen, the relationship between the group culture of the rich and that of the poor, and the relationship between the group culture of cadre and that of the mass. This paper studies the status of the each group culture, and lay its focus on the imbalance of each group culture relationship. The study shows that the imbalance between the group culture of farmer and that of the citizen is reflected in the conflict between the moving farmers or the "farmer worker" and the citizens, that is, the two groups cannot fit in with each other. The imbalance between the group culture of the rich and that of the poor is reflected in the cultural conflict resulted from bullying of the poor and resentment towards the rich, and the conflict takes various forms. The imbalance between the group culture of the cadre and that of the mass is reflected in the cultural conflict caused by corruption, bureaucracy, wrong doings and the abuses of power.Third, the paper studies the reasons of imbalance in the group cultures during the transformation period. This research examines the actual background of the imbalance in the group cultures during the transformation period from three aspects: the objective process of the modernization of China, the profound change in the development of Chinese society, the grand vision of the transformation of Chinese culture. Based on this examination, this research explores and reflects on the causes of the imbalance in the group cultures during the transformation period mainly from four aspects (the imbalance among the factors related to cultural changes, the asynchronousness between the cultural changes and social development, the tension between the claims for rights and the protection of rights, the gap between the free expansion and actual development) in order to make a theoretical reflection on the imbalance.Fourth, there is an all-round discussion of the idea of the harmony of the group cultures in the period of transformation. From the perspective of the harmony of the group cultures, this research discusses the ideas related to the harmony of the group cultures in several aspects (such as the focus of the idea and its connotations etc.): equality and mutual trust, equity and justice, shelving difference and seeking common grounds, modesty and moderation, communication and balance, coordination and mutual-promotion, amiability and tolerance, solidarity and friendship.Fifth, it closely examines the function of the harmony of the group cultures in the period of transformation. This research holds that the harmony of the group cultures in the period of transformation has functions of various aspects and elaborates on the functions in four aspects, i.e. to promote the development of society and to contribute to the advancement of groups; to safeguard the smooth development of people and to facilitate the progress of group culture; to improve the benign development of culture and to help the building of harmonious culture; to ensure the healthy development of economy and to facilitate the building of socialist harmonious society. This research also assesses the function of the harmony of the group cultures in the period of transformation from the perspectives of complexity and multidirectional character, indirectness and directness, specialty and generality, importance and restriction and maintains that its functions should be examined in an objective manner.Last, this paper suggests specific measures to realize the harmony of group culture in the period of transformation. On the basis of what has been analyzed and discussed above, this study has suggested and explored how to realize the harmony of group culture in the transformational period mainly in four aspects: transformation of values; objective guarantee, analyzed from the enrichment and development of material foundation and the reasonability and effectiveness of institution arrangement; group development, discussed from promoting the formation of reasonable group structure and directing the virtuous development of group culture; cultural harmony, explored from the spirit of citizenship as foundation and the harmonious culture as direction. This study holds that if these measures are comprehensibly implemented, the harmony of group culture is highly likely to be realized.According to the logic of the study mentioned above, this paper is new in the following aspects:First, this paper is new in terms of topic choosing and the way of thinking in the study of the relation and the harmony of group culture in the transformational period. This study pays much attention to the issue of the relation and the harmony of group culture in the transformational period, a topic no researcher has studied before. In terms of the way of thinking, this paper is also new in that it tries to solve the contradictions among the people from the perspective of group culture and harmony.Second, it puts forward the concept of "the harmony of the group cultures" in transitional period in order to make innovations in concept. From the perspective of cultural harmony, this paper explores the relationship among the different groups and their respective cultures, and puts forward a brand-new concept—"the harmony of the group cultures"; this paper also brings forward the concept of "the imbalance of the group cultures", and uses it to analyze the group cultures relationship.Third, it tries to construct the basic theoretical framework of the harmony of the group cultures in transitional period in order to make innovation in theory. To some extent it is the focus of this paper. This paper tries to construct the theoretical frame from the following aspects: expounding the realistic background of the research on the harmony of the group cultures in transitional period, analyzing several typical groups of group culture relationship, giving a historical review of the human thinking concerning the harmony of group cultures, illustrating the ideas and functions of the harmony of group cultures in transitional period, and etc.Fourth, it explains the ideas on how to realize the harmony of group cultures in transitional period in order to make innovations in theoretical application. In order to have some distinctive points of view, this paper tries to put forward and explores the related resolutions to realize the harmony of group cultures in transitional period.
