"The modern calligraphy" in this article is not modern people's all calligraphy, but itrefers to "the modern calligraphy" different from the traditional calligraphy which wasborn in October, 1985 "Chinese Modern Calligraphy Exhibition", one of innovationartistic forms. "The modern calligraphy" contains "the academism" calligraphy, thecalligraphy principle, the vanguard calligraphy, the fountainhead calligraphy, Chinesecharacter art and so on.The birth of modern calligraphy is not an isolation or an accidental event. It happensby various conditions. Although the reasons for producing are numerous, this articleresearched mainly from the aspects of historical perspective, time background, culturalcontext and so on. The living of Modern Calligraphy depends on the Chinese traditionalculture which take the Confucianism, the Taoist, the Zen as the philosophy foundation.The development of Chinese Calligraphy shows the historical necessity of ModernCalligraphy. Since China has carried out the reform and open policy, as a result of theeconomical fast development, people's life conditions have been changed, the quickrhythm of modernization life style has become the mainstream. The reform of politicalsystem has brought democracy and equality to people. Politics became loose, and as aresult, thought is liberated and nothing is impossible. The reform and open policy haveopened the entrance of our country to the western culture. The external modern artisticform attacks the Chinese art. China and the West culture has had the intense collision,which strikes first the field of the fine arts. 85 mainstreams of fine arts come forth.Meanwhile, Chinese Calligraphy also cannot hold back its influence, thus 85 Chinesemodern calligraphies, for the first time, are presented before the world.It has been 20 years since the birth of the modern calligraphy. During this period,modern calligraphy is continuously drawing the attention of the society in its originality,the development potential and foresightedness, which has been the modern artmanifestation of the Chinese calligraphy. When referring to this period, it can be seen thehistory of modern calligraphy and the entire calligraphy history has much in common. Itis a modern calligraphy active history. Simultaneously it is also a period of both creation,inheritance, evolution and development of a modern theory, calligraphy education mode. Thus, the modern calligraphy activity, the creation, the theory and the educationconstituted a complete modern calligraphy history. This article attempts to take it as thesurface for research by using the historical treatise and objective data as the foundation.Although the history of Modern Calligraphy is short, it has left us extremelyprecious various formats, rich content, mature modern calligraphy works, a large numberof artists who committed themselves to the development of modern calligraphy and therepresentatives have huge impact on home and abroad. A survey of this history providesa creative path for the enhancement of modernization of Chinese calligraphy, therefore,the work is valuable.
