Aesthetic Appreciation Of Literary Language In Ernvyingxiongzhuan

This dissertation studies the literary language of the novel of the late Qing DynastyErnvyingxiongzhuan. It centers on the text of the novel and starts from the bottom of thelanguage, and adopts multi-discipline approaches of linguistics, literaturology, aesthetics andsemeiology, etc. which are merged together. It explores the art of literary language inErnvyingxiongzhuan from different angles and levels and by making a microscopicinvestigation and citing objective and reliable examples.It is over 150 years since Ernvyingxiongzhuan was first published. During this period,critics mainly commented on it from the angles of history, literature, ethnology and culture,half derogatorily and half commendatorily. However, the art of literary language inErnvyingxiongzhuan was unanimously commended. Up to now, the scholars' comments on itare succinct summaries and lack specific textual research, and some of them are even biased.Although some of the researchers made comprehensive and systematic textual researches onthe function words of Ernvyingxiongzhuan and on the adverbs of Ernvyingxiongzhuan, theresults of the systematic survey of it from the angle of literary language have been short so far.Therefore, the aesthetic appreciation of the literary language in Ernvyingxiongzhuan is acreative research topic, and this is also the starting point and significance of this dissertation.This dissertation is composed of two parts, with eight chapters. The first partexpounds the forms and contents, the norms and variations, and the aestheticcharacteristics, etc. of the literary language for the purpose of clarifying someconfused ideas and finding an appropriate logical starting point and bearings ofthinking for the study of the literary language. And then, it emphatically traces thetrack of the evolution of literary language chronologically since 1980s; straightens outand investigates the existing achievements in the research; discusses the aestheticangle of the literary language based on the text, and summarizes the status quo of theresearch on the literary language in Ernvyingxiongzhuan to lay a solid foundation fora deeper research. The second part is the center of this dissertation. It makesmultidimensional researches on the different levels and different languages of the textof the novel, and makes a systematic exposition of the different artistic functions andaesthetic value of different languages in specific contexts.
