Modern Korean Free Verse Study Of Formation Process

In 1876,the Korean modernization,which was being carried out at the same time with the open-door policy,was full of contraventions for the colonization of Korean.Because of the long-time of feudalistic dominion,Korea had to open door to the whole world In oder to develop quickly. However,Korea was occupied by Japan as a colony soon just after it.Korea tried to protect their dominion through a series of anti-imperialist activities,but it contradicted the tenet that planned to enrich and strengthen the country.In a word,"civilization" and "independence" were the cheif slogans during that period.The contradiction was more obvious after "The Union of South Korea and Japan" in 1910.As a social ideology,literature could not escape its effect.After"South Korea and Japan combined state"the free verse sprung up formally.Poets had published many kinds of poems in free rhythm.This could be regarded as the reason of the free verse's rising.However,such transformation happened when the feudal society was collapsing,and the Korea was becoming colonial country. As a result,Korean poetry literature was inevitably effected by Western Europe.Because of it,some latecomers use "consciousness civilization" and "tradition discontinuity" to explain temporal literatureIn dictionary,"tradition" is the reflect in the Historical Schemes in most of works,about the property of the concept,the style,the patterns which stayed at the same time.culture or literature won't end just because they were impacted by alien ideas.Even impacted by external trends,Traditon would still be inherited and reproduced with a new look.Korean modernizing time was period that Western Europe's civilization and the Korean traditional culture was colliding.As a result,the form of poetry that expressed the thought and feeling more freely appeared.With both the internal causes and the external causes,free verse had taken root in Korea.Internal causes were the transformation process of the traditional poem forms,the modern sense of "Civilization" and "independence" laid a foundation for the emergence of free verse.External causes were the impacts of Turgenev's prose poems and French symbolism poems.The poets of Korea began to indite the free verse in the process of the translating Turgenev's prose poems and adhibiting French symbolism.In the process of inditing the Free Verse,the Korean poets started to pay their attention to the tradition.Then,the principal poets such as Kim Ek,began to research the Balladry Verse and the Ditty Verse.Before the poets officially indite the Balladry Verse and the Ditty Verse(before 1925),in such process,they based on tradition during the exploring the Free Verse and they integrated national emotion in the rhythm that was filled with individual Korean nationality.They made great efforts to turn the free verse which was imported from west Europe to the free verse which born the weight of Korean soul and was full of Korean cadence.They put up their national emotion and soul into their national language and individual cadence.In short,free verse appeared in the conflict between Western European literary trends and Korea's traditional emotion and Korea's aesthetic sense,and during the time when Korea had suffered to be a colony.Korea's free verse gradually overcame the tendency of prosaic and Western Europe in the conflict between Western European civilization and Korea's traditional culture,and reposed their national emotion in it.Therefore,free verse which belonged to Korean nation was born.
