Korea Ritual System Research

This dissertation analyzes the formation background, process of ritual system in Goryeo, and explains the content, characteristic and significance of it. The thesis is divided into three sections: introduction, main body and conclusion.In the first section, the purpose and significance of the paper are proposed. In addition, the present situation in China and abroad is analyzed.The main body of the paper is divided into four chapters. In the second chapter, the content and nature of Ritual is elaborated, on this basis, the spread of Rituals before Goryeo is described, which are the theoretical preparation for the latter analysis of the significance of ritual system in Goryeo. In addition, this part briefly explains the origin of Ritual system in Korean peninsula and the background of the development of Ritual system.In the third chapter, the formation background and process are introduced; the historical reasons for formation of ritual system in Goryeo from political, cultural and institutional aspects are analyzed. As a sequence of historical clues, the early Korean ritual system, Narimune ritual system, the compilation of Xiang Ding Gu Jin Li《祥定古今礼》and the latter construction of ritual system are explored. This part not only focuses on the key issues of construction of ritual system, but also shows the whole picture of development and formation of it.In the fourth chapter, the main content of ritual system in Goryeo, including the rituals of happiness, the rituals for guests, the rituals for armies, the rituals for celebrations and the rituals for funerals is elaborated. On basis of historical data, the author explains the specific content of ritual system in Goryeo systemically by comparing the ritual systems in Goryeo and in Tang and Song dynasties. In addition, the characteristics of ritual system in Goryeo are analyzed and summarized.In the fifth chapter, The interaction of ritual system, politics and society in Goryeo are analyzed. The function of ritual system includes strengthening the sovereign authority, governing the country on basis of ritual system, changing the customs etc.. Finally the historical significance of ritual system is explained. The ritual system in. Goryeo is the landmark in the development of ancient Korea, and plays a key role in the formation of ritual system in Korean peninsula. As a practice of Confucianism, ritual system in Goryeo promotes the spread of Confucianism and the formation of Political Culture Communities of the Ritual Rule in Asia("东亚礼治政治文化圈").The last section is the conclusion of the thesis.
