The dissertation, Construction and Transcendency:Research on Utilitarian Literary Thoughts of Hsun Tzu, argues the origin, essence, noumenon, representation, core, meaning, and theories about utilitarian literary thoughts of Hsun Tzu based on methods of comparative argumentation, hermeneutical argumentation and historic aesthetics comment argumentation. The essential fields are composed of historical occurrence, theoretical dimensions, aesthetics and pursuit, etc. The study scope includes humanity, education, goodness, ritual and music, ritual presents, poem and poetic essay. The author has a try to give a panorama of literary thoughts of Hsun Tzu from the view of culture, explain the transcendental consciousness from the overhead view of comparative poetics, and contemplate literary thoughts of Hsun Tzu from all sides.Through author's careful reading of the text named The book of Hsun Tzu, this dissertation tries to perfect the internal logic of Hsun Tzu's academic thought system and the whole construction of literary thought of Hsun Tzu, highlight the framework of Hsun Tzu ideology, and show individual thinking and innovation. The author believes that Hsun Tzu's literary ideology system is composed of four closely linked levels. The first level is to criticize the Confucian fission trend and integrate the Confucian culture. The distinction of Confucian thought weakens its position and influence in social environment. Hsun Tzu tries to maintain the Confucian "Holy Road" thought, and with criticizing the heresy of the Confucian schools, he constructs a new "Confucianism" which well meets the requirements of the time. The second level is the basic level of theoretical structure. Hsun Tzu's ideology system construction which is symbolized by "Li" and "Ren" is the reason why he can form the theoretical origins of his profound ideology. Hsun Tzu pays close attention to society, concerns the reality of human nature, and uses these as the precondition of his theory, which lays the foundation for the whole construction ideology system. The third level is the exclusive level of literary thought. This level embodies the consciousness of activeness and explanation in the ideological and theoretical construction of Hsun Tzu. The literary representation in The Book of Hsun Tzu shows the literary spirit of Hsun Tzu and explains the aesthetic nature of literature and art. The fourth is the practice level of literary thought. Hsun Tzu's literature and art practice builds an unconscious expression level of the literature and art thought, which has made the complementary and mutual-proving relation with the consciousness level of theory in Hsun Tzu's literature and art ideology system. Hsun Tzu's literary practice has also played an important role in the interpretation and construction of his literature and art thought.After completing the comprehensive construction and full investigation of the Hsun Tzu's academic ideology, the author puts forth ideas of utilitarian literary thoughts of Hsun Tzu. The dissertation is formed of seven parts. The introduction as the first chapter is about the actuality of Hsun Tzu's study and the new progress and main aim of this dissertation. By means of comparing the thoughts of Mencius with that of Hsun Tzu, the second chapter argues the origin of utilitarian literary thoughts of Hsun Tzu on the field of "the thinking of human nature" and "the dimension of life". With the use of comparing the thoughts of Chuang Tzu with that of Hsun Tzu, the third chapter indicates the theoretical dimensions of literary thoughts of Hsun Tzu within the scope of the role of enlightenment and benevolent humanity. As a method of comparing the thoughts of Mocius with that of Hsun Tzu, the forth chapter explains the construction of literary thoughts of Hsun Tzu in the area of the ritual and music. By way of comparing the thoughts of Han Fei tzu with that of Hsun Tzu, the fifth chapter discusses the aesthetics and pursuit of utilitarian literary thoughts of Hsun Tzu in the region of outside decoration and inside pristine beauty. The sixth chapter puts forward the system of Hsun Tzu's poetics on the field of poem and poetic essay. The seventh chapter elucidates Hsun Tzu's literary thoughts without utilitarian in The book of Hsun Tzu.
