The Symbiosis And Deviation Of Science And Fine Arts

Science and fine arts are consistently excellent parts of human civilization like two exotic flowers. Science is characterized by strictness and fine arts is characterized by beauty. They went through both symbiosis and deviation in the history of development. Research in both China and foreign countries, however, has been focusing on the relations between them, demostrating their identical lineage and interaction, therefore ignoring the root of their contradictions and conflicts. Traditional philosophy respects rationality and science, so that science, particularly physical science, gains its special place in the intellectual system, but fine arts is restrained. In the past 30 years, the idea that traditional science regards knowledge of physical science as objective truths and scientific develppment as linear accumulation has been increasingly threatened by a new school of scientific philosophy, wnich regards physical science as one of the multi-cultures, and which causes the research on the understanding of science to be one of the reflections upon the varieties of philosophy.The symbiosis and deviation of science and fine arts, chosen as the title of this essay, is intended to study the subsystems in the multi-cultures—the relationship between science and fine arts, on the basis of the idea of the new school of scientific philosophy that physical science is one of the multi-cultures.The general conception of this essay is to discuss the two related aspects between science and fine arts -- symbiosis and deviation, and to study with some innovations the departure of science and fine arts, based on the research on the symbiosis of them, aiming to throw light on, in an objective way, the relationship between them. As known to all, fine arts is different from science in that it creates deep reflections for us through the responses of our visual organs, so that we can clearly recognize the current situations of our lives, and try to get rid of the control over our mind. With the fast development in modern science and technology, conventional aesthetic conceptions are faced with disintegration, resulting in great impact on traditional forms of art. In this general situation, contemporary works of art typically respond negatively to the society filled with contradictions. While the artistic value of modern fine arts remain to be doubted by many people, coupled with a lot of controversy, it causes the appreciators to criticize and share the instrumental value of science and technology by magnifying the self-discipline of art and the opposing image between individual creations and social reality to highlight its rebellion. Following the industrial revolutions, especially after the 20th century, science and fine arts not only co-exsisted in harmony, but they fought each other fiercely in a way never seen before. Symbiosis and deviation compose the main melody of the contemporary cultural development of human society. But to date the academia of China has not yet started the research on this aspect, so it is extremely important to fully and thoroughly analyse and discuss the relationship between science and fine srts so that they can achieve real progress and human society can develop in health and order.This essay consists of six chapters. Chapter 1, after introducing the background knowledge, the aim and meaning of choosing the title, throws light on the research subject and content, summarizes and evaluates the current status of research on this subject in China and foreign countries, specifies the research methods applied in writing this essay and the possible innovation in it. Chapter 2, after defining the general concepts, elaborates on the basis of theories related to this research, including law of unity and opposites in dialectics, theory of discrepansy and coordination in systematology, the scientific outlook of late modernism and the scientific and philosophical outlook of pluralism. Chapter 3, based historical investigations and actual evidence, analyses two perspectives, proves the symbiosis of science and fine arts, and probes into the nature of and reasons for the relationship between science and fine srts. Chapter 4 raises and proves the idea of deviation of science and fine arts, including the deviation of science from fine arts and the one of fine arts from science, as well as analyses what causes this deviation. Chapter 5 further elaborates the tension between the symbiosis and deviation of science and fine arts. Chapter 6, as the conclusion of this essay, concludes that the departure of fine arts from science is beneficial while the one of science from fine arts is not, which is based on the scientific and philosophical outlook of late modernism.In brief, this essay is intended to find how to restrain the deviation of science from fine arts so that the plain nature of fine arts can be seen, and how to enhance the value of fine arts to the deviation of science so that science can better serve human society of art. This will be the main problems that people of 21th century must solve in the course of pursuing higher quality of life.
