Sentence-completing element (SCE) that plays an indispensable role in generating Chinese Sentences is not valued greatly and still a vital problem for learners when teaching Chinese as second language. SCE, partitioned in the fields of grammar and vocabulary in traditional curriculum, goes against the students' understanding of the Chinese sentences as a whole and causes the lacking of sense of sentence-completion. Moreover, that the errors cannot be corrected efficiently will affect the students'learning efficiency. This dissertation, based on the written corpus of Uyghur preparatory students, aims to promote the methods of teaching Chinese and investigates the application of ten categories of modern Chinese SCE. The regularities of error distribution in SCE are listed as follows:time and aspect> modality>mood>result>correlation> number>trend>degree>situation>indicator. The omitting of time and aspect category, modal category, mood category are more increasingly conspicuous to cause the incomplete sentences. In order to bring out the causes of SCE errors, we study the aspect marks"着,了,过" in time and aspect category and the frequently used modalities in modal category, analyzing the completing ability of these highly-errored SCEs, the syntax conditions of emergence, the contribution for grammar and pragmatics as well as the co-occurrence with other SCEs. We will expound in multi-perspectives on the SCE errors of Uygur preparatory students. This dissertation consists of five chapters:Chapter I:We discuss the views of sentence in Modern Chinese, define the properties, definition and connotation of SCE, and briefly interpret the conditions and features of using SCE.Chapter II:We survey the SCE errors in the corpus from Uygur students in terms of the previously defined SCE types, and sum up the main types of errors as well as the regularities of errors in different levels. ChapterⅢand Chapter IV:Based on the modal category and time and aspect category in high frequency, we'll study the four types of SCE in these two categories in respect of the sentence-completing function, syntax conditions, error types and causes in terms of corpus analysis and Uygur grammar.Chapter V:In the sense of the mark and cognitive naturalness, we'll analyze the underlying reasons of SCE errors in high frequency, and point out the existence of SCE errors of students in different levels is ubiquitous fossilization in Chinese acquisition. This dissertation proposes some solutions and suggestions according to the teaching aims of Chinese curriculum for Uygur preparatory students.
