This dissertion carrys on a comprehensive and detailed exploration on derivation by initial-change in classical Chinese. The full text includes 70 pairs of derivations by initial-change, and is subdivided into seven parts. The first part is the prelusion. It surveys the prior study on this topic, then follows the theoretical issues, such as research object, approach and range. The second part investigates the derivations by radical initial-change. It includes 22 pairs, and is subdivided into two parts. (1)The derivations by k-group initial-change, as follows:qi(期),qu(去),ji(幾),qi(奇),ke(可),qiao(乔),jing(京).(2) The derivations by k-group andγ-,x-,O-initial-change, as follows:jie(解),xiao(校),xu(虚),huai(坏),hui(会),xi(繋),jue(决),jue(抉),kuo(括),hui(禬),he(合),jing(景),jian(閒),jian(减),gan(甘).The third part investigates the derivations by lingual initial-change. It includes 28 pairs, and is subdivided into three parts. (1)The derivations by t-group initial-change, as follows:tu(土),tiao(条),zhu(柱),zhi(植),zhi(置),zhe(谪),zhu(著),da(大),tuo(脱),che(彻),da(达),duan(断),zhong(中).(2) The derivations by t-group initial-change, as follows:zhao(昭),shi(识),shu(属),zhe(折),shao(勺).(3) The derivations by t-group and t-group initial-change, as follows:zhu(注),zhao(召),shou(手),zhi(至),shi(施),shi(释),shuo(说),shi(失),zhi(质),chu出.The fourth part investigates the derivations by dental (ts-group) initial-change. It includes 8 pairs, as follows:zai(载1),zai(载2),ji(穧),zuo(撮),ji(辑),jin(尽),jing(井),cang(藏).The fifth part investigates the derivations by bilabial (p-group) initial-change. It includes 10 pairs, as follows:bei(卑),bao(包1),bao(包2),ba(跋),bei(背),bie(别),feng(奉),fang(纺),fen(分),bian(辩).The sixth part investigates the exceptional cases of derivations b initial-change.It is subdivided into two parts. (1)The exceptional cases of derivations by initial-change, it includes 2 pairs, as follows:chou(臭),chu(畜).(2) A discussion on the exceptional cases of derivations by initial-change.The seventh part is the conclusion. It comes from five parts. (1) Derivation by initial-change is established by usage. (2)Derivation by initial-change shows 3 ways of definition derivations. (3) Derivation by initial-change shows 12 relantions of definition derivations. (4)Derivation by initial-change does not back the morphological hypothesis in ancient Chinese. (5) Derivation by initial-change reveals some informations to the research of initial system of ancient Chinese.
