For a long time, root compounding is the major way of Chinese word-formation, while derivation is very much undeveloped, and relevant research are less too. There have not been final conclusions of the definition of the typical affixes in the academia. This thesis partly consults the characteristic of Indo-European languages' affixes on the basis of summarizing of several famous scholars'relevant argumentation, according to the actual conditions of Chinese, proposes these standards of defining typical affixes of contemporary Chinese: The meaning is more abstract and summarizing than root; glueing; orienting; productive.Typical affixes of contemporary Chinese is less in quantity, and most are not very active. But in recent years, a large number of quasi-affixes emerges in contemporary Chinese because of translation, imitation and analogy, and pragmatics factors. And with the quasi-affixes as the leading factor, contemporary Chinese demonstrate a inclination of affixization.
