As a historical work of great importance during the Xizhou period, making a study on the word-formation of ZuoZhuan helps us to deeply realize more about the Chinese morphological characteristics before the Qin Dynasty thereby reveals the change rule of Chinese word-building during this period. The vocabularies in ZuoZhuan contion not only single words but also compounds Derivation by meaning and Derivation Phonetic change are the chief word-formation of single words during the Xizhou period. Of these two derivations the former is always seen in transformation between Verb and Noun, and the latter is the majority of the word with common meaning also with the fist tone. Both Derivation by overlap and Grammar are morphology of compounds. In ZuoZhuan, those words overlapped usually are Verbs and transformed manly into Adjective, Derivation by grammar is principally done by analysis and statistics of Coordinative formation, Pianzhengshi formation (a word modifies the head-word), Predicate and Object formation, etc.
