Research On The Strategies For Peaceful Reunification Of Taiwan

Taiwan question is a long-standing unsolved question of the Chinese Civil War. It is, in essence, China's internal affair, but on the other hand, it is implicated by international elements. After more than 60 years, this question has increased in its complexity and subtlety due to interweaving of different interests, thoughts and conflicts. This, in turn, makes it more difficult to solve the question today. A solution to this question and the reunification of China is the common wish for all Chinese, both home and abroad. It is also one of the three most significant tasks for the Party, since it is core and fundamental interest of China. For the past half century, Chinese communist party has striven constantly for solving this question, but the question remains today when the world share the themes of peace and development, which should be the new starting point of resolving this old question.This paper explores what should be done to grasp cross-strait relations under new circumstances, and how to put forward and adhere to the basic principle of "peaceful reunification, and one country, two systems", and how to further what we have done on this question, more effectively and flexibly by uniting all efforts we can to persist the cause of China's reunification.Firstly, the paper defines the meaning of strategy and its characteristics. Taiwan question is a key one in the national strategic development, and we have undergone developmental phases from "Resolve by the use of force"," Peaceful resolution"(with interruption of the first strategy during the Cultural Revolution), to "peaceful reunification, and one country, two systems". This paper, within the bigger framework of the national strategy, puts forward suggestions which are more feasible and reasonable by reviewing what we have obtained from the past working experience. The paper also analyses factors that are likely to have favorable and unfavorable impacts on the cross-strait relations.On top of that, guiding theory is proposed that under the overall strategy of the Party, do any that is beneficial for dissolving forces that advocate Taiwan independence, for winning the uttermost support of Taiwan people, for peaceful unification of China as soon as possible; and basic principle is to integrate strategic flexibility with firmness, to integrate peaceful negotiation with military preparation, to integrate communications at governmental levels and non-governmental levels, to integrate efforts on Taiwan question with those on international ones, to integrate political means with economic and cultural means, to integrate specific with general, to integrate open with confidential.Last, the paper will propose strategies regarding politics, economy, culture, diplomacy, in addition to strategies for some key parties in Taiwan and Taiwan citizens, in the expectation that these will contribute to the noble cause of China's reunification.This paper is worked out by applying findings from Chinese researches of Marxism, and it is a result of combined research of history and logic, theory and reality, hoping that practical solutions are worked out in a scientific way. It is an unstoppable and irreversible trend to reunify China and revitalize this great land.
