Trade In Services, The Development Of History And Liberalization

This dissertation aims to study the history and liberalization of trade in services and then brings up suggestions about the tactics which our nation should adopt to cope with the liberalization of trade in services through theoretical, historical, normative and positive studies.Chapter 1 summaries and comments on the concepts and theories concerned with trade in services, gives its own definitions of service, services trade, and the liberalization of services trade, and offers a theoretically analytical framework for the whole dissertation. Chapter 2 tries to find out the historical rules of services trade development through systematically historical examination of the services trade. Chapter 3 studies the development of trade in services and trends of the liberalization of services trade beginning from the 1970s, analyses their characteristics and reasons, and then predicts the future development of the liberalization of services trade.Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 are case analyses and positive studies by applying the theoretical framework and conclusions through the historical research derived from the previous three chapters. Chapter 4 is the case studies of the liberalization of financial and telecommunications services in Japan. It analyses the characteristics of the liberalization of the financial and telecommunications services in Japan and finds out what tactics Japanese government has adopted and what we can learn from them. Chapter 5 is the case study of the software liberalization in India and aims at probing into the successful experience gained by developing countries and the problems they meet in the liberalization process of trade in services.Chapter 6 investigates the development and liberalization of services and trade in services of P. R. China, analyses what challenges our nation will meet in the liberalization of trade in services and makes the dissertation's own suggestions on the fundamental rules and major tactics which our government should adopt to meet the challenges of the liberalization of trade in services.
