On the basis of multiple economics and sociological theories, this dissertation emphasizes on systematic research on the core proposition, which is that the development of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) promotes national economy development and leads to structural change of social class.Part One: This part, also as Introduction, starts from the point of Development Economics, which says that economic growth leads to structural change of revenue distribution and then the appearance of "middle class". This phenomenon is just the reflection of economic and social power of developed countries. The "middle class" makes great contribution to economic development and social structure change. Therefore, the first thing developing countries have to do for further development is to cultivate "middle class". And the important way to foster middle class is to cultivate SMEs. Besides this, the supporting theories and basic framework are also presented in this part.Part two: The firm scale theories related to SMEs are discussed here. The shortcomings and limitations of SMEs quantitative analysis are also pointed out, which makes the author pay more attention to qualitative analysis of SMEs including property right structure, entrepreneur responsibility and management of internal organization. Qualitative analysis is helpful for recognizing the system, political and social nature of SMEs and avoiding misunderstanding in ideas and opinions. It argues that the nature of market economy system is a system of which the core factor is effective competition, a system for protecting human beings initial creativity. The framework of the free competition economic system supplies a suitable environment for both the growing-up of "venture entrepreneurs" and forming of SMEs. Moreover, the compatibility of SMEs and the economic and social policies of market economy system.stimulate and promote the market economy system to be perfect, furthermore facilitate the development of macro economy and structural change of social class.Part four: This part is for the research of internal environment of SMEs. The author's point of view is: the most important conditions and basis for the achievements and existence & development of SMEs are internal property right arrangement, organization and management. This is also done through the comparison of SMEs with large-sized enterprises.Part five: The external conditions for SMEs are analyzed in this part. The author states that the obstacle for the development of SMEs from "soft" environment is more serious than that from "hard" environment. The firm's development environment is the biggest problem for the development of SMEs. Therefore, it is necessary to improve ideas, policies, services and legal system, to establish and implement promotional policies and laws of SMEs. Developing SMEs is also the threshold for lag areas getting rid of poverty.Part six: The analysis of the relation between SMEs and "middle class" shows that the development of SMEs is the headspring of "middle class" with modern meaning. The "middle class" is the nucleus of national economy and representative group of social class structure, which makes a nation realize structural transferring-from "pyramid style" of agricultural society to "olive style" of modern society. Even though the "middle class" is composed of the "economic middle class" of SMEs entrepreneurs and "social middle class" of other social groups, the "economic middle class" is the main and basic component.Part seven: The title is The "middle class" in the structural change of Chinesesociety.
