Besides the most illustrious political and military struggles to overthrow the imperial governments of Mctnchu dynasty and the military monarchism, Sun Zhong-shan(Dr Sun Yat-sen), as the first greatest figure to regenerate the Chinese People in the 20th century, had explored throughout his whole life and marked out one magnificent plan to develop rapidly the national economy. In fact his scientific dissections and extensive projects about the economic-developing problems in modern China may be defined as a characteristic Developing Economics. However, among the hundreds and thousands of articles and books about Sun, there is no any monographic study of his economic-developing thoughts. This dissertation, based on the application of the rationale of the Developing Economics and the exhaustive analyses of Sun's literature, will deal with this issue in particular.Apart from the preface, the dissertation is made-up of 10 chapters. The first chapter probes into the targets, sources and phases of Sun's developing-economic thoughts. Sun tried to get a best, most suitable way to accelerate Chinese economy so as to overtake and even surpass the western developed countries in a short time. One main source of his developing-economic thoughts was the ancient financial policies and measures and economic equalitarianism from Chinese tradition, especially from Confucianism, and another, coming from the modern western economics. Obviously, during the formation of Sun'sdeveloping-economic thoughts there were three stages: the first was before 1895, when Sun jtx)pDSe(} |tq enhance production to build a new prosperous and powerful China; the second was during his revolutionary period( 1895-1911), when Sun paid more attention to -innovating the political and economic systems; and the third, that's the early of Republic(1912-1924), when he drew up one great exploitation and building plan and put forward a series of policies and measures to bring them into .practice.; ;The second chapter expounds how Sun studied and applied the principles of modern economics to the strategy of Chinese economic development. Sun was not a specialist in economy, but it was owing to him that economy became a formal discipline in modern China. He elaborated correctly upon production, distribution, exchange and consumption, and made careful specification as to the interactions of the four principles in Chinese economic development. He emphasized repeatedly that the general goal of Chinese economic development was to achieve his "The Principle of People's livelihood"(Sun's socialism). The third chapter summarizes Sun's countermeasures of accelerating economic in modern China. First, the rich natural resources in the spacious western regions should be explored and utilized systematically, just as he pointed out, which would redound to the reasonable allocation of the natural resources and the efficient diffusion of manpower all over the country, and would help forward a well-balanced national economic development and a impregnable western frontier defense against aggression. Secondly, all kinds of external resources should be absorbedand put to use largely. He considered It essential to carry out a door-opening policy for Chinese economic development, thus he made many severe critiques on the door-closing doctrine. Furthermore, in view of the extremely lacking of funds, talents, science and technology, he suggested to take advantage of the foreign funds, invite and employ experts abroad, introduce foreign science and technology. The third, education should be improved and science and technology should be progressed greatly, which, Sun regarded as the key to Chinese economic improvement. In chapter 4 and 5, the author dissects respectively Sun's opinions of the relations between transportation, finance and Chinese economic development. Sun once took transportation for the mother of industry, therefore, he drew up an enormous transportation building project that included three large harbors in the north, east and south , and hundreds and thou...
