As China's economy has been integrated gradually with world economy, the significance of study for industrial competitiveness has been recognized gradually by our government, administration and academies. The dissertation outlines a new systematical analyzing mode for competitiveness research. It constructs an evaluation index system and methods based on the theory of competitiveness economics.The outline of the dissertation is as follows. In the first part (Chapter Two), the main research achievements on international competitiveness have been summarized, including the concepts and arguments of various institutes and scholars. Then a describing definition on international competitiveness has been put forward according to our researching purpose.In the second part (Chapter Three), the economic foundation of competitiveness has been analyzed. The dissertation brings forward that economics could explain competitiveness as it is an economic issue substantially. The dissertation constructs a research frame for competitiveness theoretic sources based on economic system. In knowledge economic time, one of the new international competitiveness modes has been in the process of forming.In the third part (Chapter Four), the main purpose and research object for industrial competitiveness have been outlined. Then the part constructs a research frame and an Index System for international competitiveness of industry.The fourth part (Chapter Five) is very important. It sums up the main evaluation methods for industrial competitiveness as five classes. They are Index integrated evaluation method, Competitive results evaluation method, Influence factors analyzing method, Total factors method and Benchmarking method. Among them, the dissertation takes DEA and OCRA as the typical quantitative methods applied to the evaluation of industrial competitiveness, and puts forward "the efficiency production frontier" as a "Benchmark", which is just the evaluation criterion for industrial competitiveness.The last part (Chapter Six) conducts some researches by demonstration in auto industry, petrochemical and chemical industry.
