Based on the theoretical judgments: "Institution is vital" and "Technologicaladvancement is the foremost origin", the dissertation analyses Japan's economicgrowth and institutional transformation from the point of view of institutionalarrangement connecting the technological innovation with growth performance. The economic miracle after World War â…¡ and the economic stagnancy from 90'sin Japan have provided us an ideal research background. One side, the technologicalinnovation system with the characteristics of market motivating in Japan hasdeveloped from its particular institutional environments; therefore, both haveinteracted with each other and implemented the high-speed economic growth. Theother side, along the foundations of the technological innovation system of marketmotivating disappearing gradually, the model of the technological innovation systemis faced with the essential modulation. The grand transformation of the institution hasbecome the key for Japanese economy shaking off the lasting stagnancy. The following are included in the paper. Introduction explains the backgroundand research methods of the dissertation. The formation and collapse of bubbleeconomy announced the discontinuity of high-speed economic growth that had beenconstituted by Japanese-Style Economic System with the characteristics of overtaking,reflecting that the benign circulation system supporting Japanese economy began tocollapse. Therefore, Japan has trapped in lasting stagnancy owing to the lack ofdevelopment direction from 90's last century. It's the start of the dissertation to holdthe economic miracle and the lasting stagnancy from 90's as a continuous process.The main research methods and content of the dissertation are composed of flexiblecombination with technological innovation and institutional innovation to emphasizethe institutional arrangement and transformation based on technological innovation inthe process of economic growth. Chapter Two is to expatiate on the evolving process that developing countriesrealizes the accumulation of technological capabilities and technological innovationmodel with the theory of 'backward gain', generalizing the kinds of technologicalinnovation constituting the origins of industrious competition by analysis oftechnological life cycle and technological innovation chain based on the summing upof the development of innovation theory. Founded on the uncertainty of innovation, IIIthe dissertation analyzes the institutional evolution based on the development processof model of technological innovation to construct a theoretical frame of institutionalevolution on technological innovation. Chapter Three generalizes the evolution process of technological developmentand economic growth after War from three dimensions: technology import,technological innovation and equipment investment. On the base of analysis incharacteristics of the technological innovation model, the dissertation makes ademonstrative analysis of the contribute of R&D investment and technology import tothe technological advancement and R&D structure and constructs a dynamic model ofeconomic growth on technological innovation, therefore, drawing a dynamic contrailof Japanese economic growth in the process of technological pursuing. Chapter Four and Five mainly discuss the institutional structure based ontechnological innovation during the process of economic growth. Chapter Fourexplores the institutional foundation of technological innovation through theinstitutional features of market structure, enterprise behavior and the financialsurroundings. It is researched that the particular institution structure that haddeveloped gradually after War had mostly corresponded with the model of imitatinginnovation based on technology import.
