This dissertation, with financial support by National Natural Science Foundation of China (No.70071029) and Provincial Science and Technology Plan of Zhejiang province (No.011106241), will study the theory and method for Business Process Management (BPM) implimentation systematically. Based on the analyzing of the state of arts of BPM research, this research focuses on BPM implimentation architecture, performance driven BPM methodology, business process modeling technique, business process diagnosing technique, business process performance measurement technique and integrated business process management support software system (IBPMS3), etc. The aim is to support the BPM project implementation in enterprise with theory, techniques and software tools. In chapter 1, the focus will be on the analysis of the competitive environment of today's manufacturing enterprises, review the development history and the state of arts of BPM. Then, the research objective and content of this dissertation are proposed. In chapter 2, first me thinking in BPM is discussed, then a 3-layer BPM implimentation theoretical architecture is established. In theory layer, the theories underlying BPM are systematically discussed. Then, in the methodology layer, a performance driven BPM methodology is proposed. Finally, in the enable techniques layer, the usually used enable techniques are reviewed. Under this architecture, the six key techniques are identified and their main usage in BPM project implementation are discussed. In chapter 3, a multi-view business process model is established which, describes a business process model using process view, objective view and organization view. The tasks, description method, base model elements and their relationships are discussed. Petri net is employed to analysis the structure soundness of the business process model and discrete event system simulation method is used to dynamically analyze the business process performance. In chapter 4, the characteristics of business process measurement is analyzed, from a discussion of both stakeholders and activities views, a business process measurement framework is established. A business process measures identification method is proposed. The business process measurement data obtaining approaches and their cost/benefit are analyzed. And finally, the distance comprehensive measurement method is employed to measure the comprehensive business process performance. In chapter 5, a business process diagnosis model is proposed. A set of business processperformance measures are set as the indicators to monitor the operating state of the business process, and they are used to identify problems. According to whether the problems and its causes are quantifiable, two diagnosis routines are argured. If at least one of the causes are not quantifiable, a method based on AG and AHP is proposed. Algorithms are proposed to transform AG to analytic hierarchy structure and add virtual node to those analytic hierarchy structures with sub-hierarchy. Then AHP is employed to analyze the root causes' effect to the business process failure mode quantitatively. If all the causes are quantifiable, a quantitative relations analysis method is presented. In chapter 6, the shortcomings of current business process management support software tools are analyzed and an integrated business process management support software system (IBPMS3) is proposed. First, non-functional requirements of the system are discussed, then the functional requirements include navigational platform, application subsystem and reference warehouse subsystem are analyzed. A framework for IBPMS3 is established and a prototype is developed. In chapter 7, the research in this dissertation and future research directions are summarized.
