Army Morale Model, Influencing Factors And Incentive Mechanism

The military morale is one of the central concepts of military psychology, Which originates from the reflection to military action of ancient philosophers and militarist. Since military conflict appeared, morale has always been playing an important role in the war. By using theoretic analysis, investigation on the spot, questionnaire investigation, experimental research and technique of constructing model, this research explores the model of military morale, factors of influencing morale, and mechanism of inspiriting morale theoretically, explicitly, practically and systematically. The study consists of four parts. The first is the review of military morale, which includes theory of military morale in the ancient China, the measure of morale, the meaning of morale, the dimensionalities of morale, and the function and mechanism of morale. The second part investigates the model of military morale. The objective of this part is to explore the structure of military morale, develop the Military Morale Scale (MMS) for Chinese Army and to establish the model of military morale. In this part, the auther analyse the methodology of morale research and the methods of developing scale firstly. Then the paper develops the MMS. The MMS is filled by 825 active army men for exploratory factor analysis (EFA). The second sample for confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) has 1130 active army men. By the software of Amos4.0, the author analyse the data. The results of EFA have six factors, the consciousness of responsibility, the feeling of honors, the spirit of teamwork, the identification of organization, the passion to work, the confidence of warfare. The results of CFA show the fitness of the sample data to the original six-factor-model of EFA. The third part examines the factors of influencing morale and the functions of morale.
