This dissertation makes a very comprehensive and systematic study of social stability in China. The whole dissertation consists of seven parts including an introductory part.The introductory part mainly relates the significance of researching in this topic, the implications of the concept "stability", survey of the other scholars' studying about stability. Meanwhile it puts forward studying methods and the train of thought.Chapter One discusses the history of safeguarding social stability since the founding of the People's Republic of China. This chapter is composed of four parts, part one analyses Mao Ze-tung's thoughts about social stability; part two analyses Deng Xiao-ping's thoughts about social stability; part three analyses Jiang Ze-min's thoughts about social stability; part four inspects the history of social stability in China since 1949.It probes into the harmful factors to social stability from Chapter Two to Chapter Five. The author holds that reforming and opening to the outside world makes China develop very fast, meanwhile it brings about challenges to social and political stability.Chapter Two discusses how the changing ownership and class structures make social stability face new challenges.Chapter Three discusses how the changing distribution structure makes social stability face new challenges.Chapter Four discusses how the market economy makes social stability face new challenges.Chapter Five discusses how the economy globalization makes social stability face new challenges.Chapter Six expounds how to maintain and bring about stability and unity in China forever. To keep China stable is a systematic engineering, so we must make great efforts. First, taking economy development as our central task, we must seize opportunities and deepen economic and political restructuring. Meanwhile we must try all possible ways to minimize revenue disparities step by step. Second, we shall build a social security system so as to provide the basic social security for the people. Third, ruling the country by law is a vital guarantee for lasting political stability of the country, so we must develop democracy and improve the legal system. Forth, we should develop socialist culture and ethics in real earnest and persistently conduct education in socialist thoughts and ethics with emphasis so as to foster common ideals and aspirations in the whole society.
