Political stability has always been an important issue in the political development of developing countries. During the period of democratic transition, there were significant differences on the political stability issues which transition countries have demonstrated, not only including both the traditional fields such as incentives for political instability and the solutions, but also on the macro-level of political stability such as the properties, levels and cycles. The topic of this article is the differences of political stability on the properties and other macro-level things, that is, the type of political stability. Studying on the political stability types has great practical significance in terms of Southeast Asian countries in the democratic transition period:a clear understanding of the political order, and then take right measures to further consolidate the political stability, promoting democracy development. This article uses the normative and empirical analysis as the main research methods, and it covers five parts. The first is the introduction, including the purpose and valuation of the study, achievement and present situation of the study, the framework and the research methodology of this paper. Basing on the read of main theories, the second part introduces the attributes and characteristics of political stability, such as the nature, the degree, and the cycles. The political stability is been divided into two categories and four types in all. That is democratic stability and non-democratic stability. The former includes natural stability, sensitive stability and vulnerable stability, while the latter includes the mandatory stability. Thirdly, take Singapore, Philippines and Thailand for example, this article analyzes the political stability types of the three countries and their fundamental characteristics. Singapore's mandatory political stability has the developmental and progressive characteristics; the variability is the Philippines's sensitive political stability's feature; while the vulnerability and transience are the Thailand's vulnerable political stability's characteristics. Since the democratic politics is still in transition, the major countries in Southeast Asia do not appear natural political stability. Therefore, it only describes other three types in this part. Fourthly, through horizontal comparison of the three political stability types, this article claims that, first, in democratic transition period, the traditional political forces are key parameters that can not be ignored in the political stability implementation process of Southeast Asian countries, balancing and making full use of the sovereign power of local families as an important measure to maintain political stability; second, an effective government is the fundamental guarantee of political stability. The higher the effectiveness of governance is, the higher the degree of political stability is. There is a positive correlation between the two; third, the establishment and institutionalization of party and party system is an important prerequisite of political stability for the countries in the democratic transition period. High level of party institutionalization can not only integrate social benefits, but provide powerful personnel support for the government to effective management. These three aspects have strong logic relations. Finally, the discussion of these three parts, the article thinks that different countries have different kinds of problems of political stability. The way on political stability will not be smooth. Singapore's mandatory stability has greater advantages in protecting development and meeting people's needs. In addition, this article initially summarizes a basic path that the countries in transition realize political stability, that is, the process from political rules establishment to institutionalization.
