After the Cold War, with the third wave rising of nationalism, nationalism has become the focus of academic exchanges.As one culture or ideology which affects deeply, Great Russian Nationalism played an important role in Russia history. That means, if one doesn't understand Great Russian Nationalism, he won't be able to read the Russian nation, and why glorious empire of Russia and the Soviet empire rose and fell, why "double-headed eagle" flying in Russia today again. Therefore, a comprehensive survey and analysis to Great Russian Nationalism can not only enrich the academic—related study of Russian Nationalism, as well as the reasons for the deepening of the disintegration of the Soviet Union, but also give us as a warning to overcome and avoid the negative influnce of Soviet Union's national policy which marked by Great Russian Nationalism.Thus, Based on the actual situation of our countries'all ethnic groups, we could formulate and perfect nation theory and policy with Chinese characteristics, in line with the interests of all ethnic groups. Based on previous research results above, This thesis analyses Great Russian Nationalism from the perspective of national politics .In the Introduction, the significance of this topic is introduced, as well as research at home and abroad,definition of nationalism, the methods, main content and innovation.This thesis begins with the formation of Great Russian Nationalism. Chapter 1 inspects the evolution history—from defensive nationalism to Pan-Slavism, and then Great Russian Nationalism—of Russian Nationalism. It also analyses the roles that geopolitical factors, religious, Thought and culture, social foundation, and national character played in the formation of Great Russian Nationalism.Chapter 2 discusses the dominant concepts, basic features and basic attributes of Great Russian Nationalism.The four statements of autocratic tsar, salvation theory, "excellent" Russian nation and inheritance, constitute the basic content of Great Russian Nationalism. It has fourcharacteristics------territorial expansion, political repression, economicplunder, cultural Russia melting. Defensiveness and expansionaryness are its two virtues. Former is limited, latter is infinite.Chapter 3 discusses manifestations of Great Russian Nationalism in Soviet era at three angles which are ethnic relations, international relations and inter-party relations. Great nationalism, chauvinism and big party chauvinism are all manifestations of Great Russian Nationalism in different areas, and actually are expansionary nationalism.Chapter 4 discusses objectively the historical function of Great Russian Nationalism.The thesis doesn't only analyse its social function, but also point out its harm to society.Chapter 5 discusses the influence to the world that Great Russian Nationalism made.Great Russian Nationalism which spreads in the 20th century affects the world greatly. The end of the bipolar structure, the changing of eastern Europe's Social system, the rupture of Sino-Soviet alliance,are all connected with Great Russian Nationalism.Chapter 6 discusses the development trends of Russian Nationalism.Based on the return to national traditions, reconstruction of the authority of the State, rebuilding the road to national rejuvenation,are inevitable choice for contemporary Russian Nationalism.The Conclusion is that, on the base of learning from the spirit of nationalism, whether today's Russia will dcline or not on the way to renaissance, need be tested by history.Based on the above,in this paper, the following aspects may be considered the exploratory. Firstly, this article first does a more comprehensive research to Great Russian Nationalism. System integrity is undoubtedly the most important characteristics of this article. Secondly, the paper consults and cites some data, opinions from the newly published files of Soviet Union,which can enhance the persuasiveness of the thesis. Thirdly, the paper objectively explores the phenomenon of Great Russian Nationalism. Fourly, Great Russian Nationalism at various manifestations of the Soviet era comes down to three kinds of patterns.That is great nationalism, chauvinism and big party chauvinism.
