The third-time insurgence of nationalisms in post cold war had again captivated theattentions of scholars worldwide, among which the most appealing was the Russiannationalism. Undergoing centuries of historic changes, Russian nationalism has beendeemed as an influential ideology or mindset, which had perforce significant impact onRussian historic development. Ever since the split of soviet union, the resurrection ofRussian nationalism had been an inevitable outcome under various promotions. Given itsrational and historical background, the Russian nationalism owns a multi-facetmanifestation of complexity with unique characteristic, which contributed a great deal tothe development of Russian and their country and became an integrated part in Russiansociety and its diplomatic strategy over the first20years of post Soviet union. Hence thereis a substantial significance in studying this subject which will not only bring insights to theRussian diplomatic policy, but also have its meaningful and realistic objective inunderstanding the relations between Russia and China. This essay will tackle this issues ofthe development and impact of Russian Nationalism in the following four aspects:the first chapter will mark the boundaries of related concepts of nationalism, and thenis followed by a systematically depiction of the historical and theoretical background for theorigin of Russian nationalism and its development.the second chapter presents the main analysis of the causes for the occurrence ofRussian nationalism. For instance, the commotion of Russian society and chaos of thepolitic and economical system and imbalanced ethical value after the segregation of sovietunion which pose an opposite image of the country’s former glory, in combination with thewestern despise and oppressions and affections of foreign ideological climates, are allaccredited to the resurrection of the Russian nationalism.the third chapter presents the research in the manifestations, characteristics andproperties of the Russian nationalism in post soviet union. firstly, the analysis is given tothe manifestation of contemporary Russian nationalism in political and social domains,secondly to its characteristics such as inheritance to the traditions and emphasis on theuniqueness; passionate patriotism with high value on the nation authority and aspiration toresurgence of their own kind. and then the depiction of the property is concluded asappertaining an indefinite trend of expansion and patriotism. the forth chapter gives the assessment of the impacts and perils brought by Russiannationalism. as illustrated, the Russian nationalism produces not only influence on domesticlevel in Russia but also on their diplomatic strategies especially those towards the relationsbetween Russia and China, while on the other hand the downside of it on the scope ofglobal peace and political and economical cooperation shall not be denied orunderestimated.
