The effectiveness is the starting point and final destination in the teaching of the ideological and political theory course. Without it, the teaching of the ideological and pol itical theory course will make no sense. Thus, how to improve the effectiveness of the teaching of the ideological and political theory course has always been a practical issue faced by those who are engaged in ideological and political work, and especially by a large number of educators in this field; besides, it has been constantly investigated and explored by a great many theoretical experts and scholars. Therefore, the study of the effectiveness of the ideological and political theory course has an important theoretical value as well as realistic significance.This essay firstly defines the effectiveness of the teaching of the ideological and political theory course. Based on the definition, it observes the current situation and problems in teaching, analyses the reasons which give rise to these problems, and provides solving methods accordingly.The effectiveness of the teaching of the ideological and political theory course is that according to the demand of our society, the actual teaching effectiveness of promoting all-round development of college students'moral characteristics in ideological and political theory course, on the condition that concentrating on cultivating students' capacity of applying Marxism Theory to guide their beliefs and behaviors.The observation of current effectiveness of the effectiveness of the teaching of the ideological and political theory course reveals that there are still many prominent problems despite the fact that the course is widely accepted by students. The cognitive ability of college students lacks of systematically theoretical knowledge and profound political discernment. Although they may have some political sense on some extent, their cognitions may be blurred or even mistaken concerned with some important political issues such as ideals and beliefs of socialism and communism, socialist road, and the guiding role of Marxism Theory. Some college students fail to turn Marxism Theory into the guidance of their thoughts and the instructions of their practice. They fail to turn it into an ideological weapon during the process of recognizing and changing the world.There are many reasons leading to the low effectiveness of the teaching of the ideological and political theory course. Among these, the long-term knowledge-centered teaching methods should mainly be to blame for the problems, which stresses on passing on knowledge rather than detailing the design and the object of teaching. The characteristics of this method are not concentrating on inspiring college students to ponder on their world views, philosophies, and senses of worth, letting alone paying attention to regular pattern of knowledge's transforming to moral characteristics. The judgment of the effectiveness in teaching is not based on teaching objects.Therefore, to improve the effectiveness of the teaching of the ideological and political theory course, we should turn knowledge-centered teaching methods into teaching approaches which emphasize on cultivating students'capacity of applying Marxism Theory to guide their beliefs and behaviors and thus promote their comprehensive moral and virtue development. In this way, we can not only stress on the radical purpose-systematically passing on Marxism Theory to college students by the course, but can also meet the need of initial demand in cultivating their comprehensive moral and virtue development.
