Negative education is a kind of educational activity which means to educate children against the misconducts using the tools as restriction, criticism and puni-shment in the field of behavior rules. The aim of it is to limit and modify the child-ren's behavior,make them assume the corresponding responsibilities for their own fault,and help them to form good habits and virtues.Mandatory,critical and putting pressure are the main features of negative education.Negative education is essential educational means. However, in our current educational practice, some educators often ignore or worry to use negative education. So that negative education falls into the situation of being abandoned,rejected,transferred, weakened, and distorted. And because of this, education tends to be weak.This not only damages the educational equity,but also impacts the authority of discipline and violates the principles of justice. It is not conducive to the formation of vitality for the children to put them in a fully warmth field.Moreover, indulgence to children is dangerous because it may make the children lack of responsibility and is difficult to help the children to establish the spirit of law.The traditional negative education attempts to train tame citizens with repression and discipline. This sort of brutal and undemocratic behaviors are strongly criticized by the education theorists. Education headed for the discovery of children, liberation of children and respect for the children from Jean-Jacques Rousseau, to Maria Monte-ssori and John Dewey. Under this trend, some scholars reflect the negative means and even question and criticize them. For example, Suchomlinski,Celestin Freinet, Burrhus Frederic Skinner, Elphey Iron and Jane Nelsen all denied penalty.They thought that punishment was an ineffective educational means and made damages to the intrinsic nature of children. Especially under the situation of promoting positive education one-sided in China,some educators forfeit cool thinking and try to exclude all the constraint in education.Throughout the history of the practice of negative education,its development tren-ds are as the following:from maintaining authority to attention to and respect for chil-dren;from punishment to diverse and human means;from resorting to children's bod -y to influencing and shaking the soul and spirit of children;from taking humiliation, deterrence,suppression as the main means to taking negative education as the seconda-ry means.Education needs to be against repression and discipline,but it doesn't mean to oppose negative education. Misconduct is a normal phenomenon during children's growth and is the trial and error in children's behavioral learning.Misconduct is precis-ely the starting point of education. It is the educator's responsibility to educate the children against misconduct. Negative education is a process of problem-solving, And the process of problem-solving not only means the growth of children,but also is acco mpanied by the creation and development of education theories.From the form of neg-ative education,negative education is the negation of the original wild and this negat-tion imposes necessary pressure on children. Children's psychological resilience is the premise on which negative education can impose pressure on the children.And necessary pressure can make the children stay sharp and careful and enhances their psychological resilience.Negative education is a feedback of misconduct.The children assimilate and adapt to external demands through reflection,so that they achieve the learning of behavior rules.In addition,what negative education creates is a kind of pressure environment. Pressure environment often constitute the driving force to survive,is conducive to develop morality as abstinence and is a context full of meanin-g of life.Therefore,negative education is valuable to children's development.It regrou-ps the behavior experiences of children,urges children to establish the moral defense of "should not be so" and also enriches the human nature of children. Simultaneously, negative education can also meet other children's moral needs,and play a warnig.It also has supportive significance to maintain basic educational order.Negative education does not violate those ethic rules to which education should adhere.In negative education, it is another kind of respect to take children as responsible moral subject,and there is not lack of care in negative education. Love in negative education is constructive thing,which aims to restore the normal growth direction of children and is a kind of sensible and dignified love.On the other hand,though negative education interferences misconduct,it does not violate children's freedom and on the contrary it protects a wide range of freedom.Because children must be responsible for their behaviors.Negative education is also a kind of statute,which aims to let children learn to be moderate, live rationally and become autonomous person.In addition, negative education is a kind of control,which is internal control for children and is proper. Therefore,negative education is invisible edification.At the same time, educators should adhere to these ethical spirit.In practice,educators should be cautious of negative education.It is necessary to recognize limited function of negative education and also guard against all possible risks.Negative education must be from and for education.What negative education passes should be valuable concepts.Moreover,it should focus on developing good pers-onality of children and be useful in developing children's understanding and cogniti-ve perspective.Negative education should be appropriate and be accepted by the children.It should strive for artistic education and prevent materialization of human from technologism.After using the negative education,educators should make active reflection,maintain communication with children and then make them readmitted by the group where they are.
