Educational criticism connects with education all along. It promotes education to have healthy development through making comments and gestures. Because of its special backgrounds of society and education, educational criticism has become a scenery line, catching many people's eyes from the late of the 20th century to the beginning of the 21st century. Although educational criticism has a participation degree exceeding all the time before, the theories of educational criticism very go short of, so it is very necessary to have a system study on educational criticism. The paper analyzed the characters, the backgrounds and the functions of the educational criticism, and excavates out the cause, the specialty and the shortage of educational criticism flourish at the turn of the century. Based on these analyses some suggestion were put forward, which was very meaningful for educational criticism itself and the development of education.This thesis is divided into four parts.The first part unscrambled the connotation, the backgrounds and its functions of educational criticism. Educational is a kind of education phenomena and society phenomena in order to buildup rationality of education practice ad promotes the development of education through apperceiving, unscrambling oppugning and animadverting the education pathology by educator and other peoples. Exploring and reflecting education pathology phenomena and rethought education function urged the appearance of educational criticism. Educational criticism has positive and negative functions. The former included perspective lens, diffuse machine, inspiration resources etc; the later included the influence on education and harm to the development of education etc.The second part summarized the actualities of the educational criticism in the join of the 20th century and 21st century. Educational criticism at the 21st century is characterized of extensive subject, outstanding hotspot, manifold form, its participation degree exceeding all the time before, aculeate saying and clear-sighted sensibility, anddeep influence. All these show its healthy development trend. But, at the same time, there are many existing problems, which will do harm to the development of education including unilateralist reason, imbalance attribution; radical without enough sense; blindness heat, repetition and levity; west adoration, regardless the situation of a country.The third part made a try on how to promote the development of educational criticism. In order to transcend the traditional educational criticism, firstly, the principles such as truth, rationality, the connectivity of theories and practices, the combination of the educational criticism and education should be obeyed. Secondly educational criticizer should be provided of these makings including operation, thought, normal character and psychology etc. At the same time, all right circumstances should also be built, for example, calling for the coexisting and collision of many-options, forming a troop of educational criticism, etc.The forth path studied the response of education to educational criticism. Education should know and utilize educational criticism resource, respond to its comment, and create good conditions for the development of educational criticism. Education should put up a flat roof of elevating the making of educational criticizer, promote the development of higher education and construct the system of lifelong education and learning society.In conclusion, through scanning educational criticism, which is a social and educational phenomenon with great backwash, the paper bends itself to explore good ways for educational criticism and educational development of the 21st century. The author believes that more and more people will take part in criticism, that there will be more constructive criticisms of high quality, full loves.
