Major: Theory of Curriculum and Instruction Specialty: Instruction Theory Tutor: Professor Jin Yu Le Author: Liu Jia FangThe study of effective classroom management behavior is a developing branch in the field of education research since 1960s. Viewed from the general tendency of the theoretical research and practices, the study is developing towards the direction of flexibility and democracy, with a transition from "hardness" to "softness". On the basis of the reflections upon the research of effective classroom management behavior, the present study reexamines the theory of effective classroom management behavior, with the purpose of constructing the theory and the model of effective classroom management behavior which are applicable to the special context in our country. The present paper consists of five parts:Introduction: This part addresses the proposition of the subject, and the conception and the framework of the research, as well as the significance of the study. It also introduces briefly the general orientation of the study of effective classroom management behavior.Part One: This section is a historical review of the study of effective classroom management behavior. First, it divides the development of study of effective classroom management behavior into different historical stages, and summarizes the basic characteristics of the research in each historical stage. Then, it introduces the theory construction and models of effective classroom management behavior in foreign countries, concluding that these theories and models have their advantages and disadvantages, and synthesis of them is desired in application. Third, it makes a prediction of the future tendency of the study of effective classroom management behavior, claiming that effective classroom management behavior in the future will devote more attention to the student, attaching great importance to the classroom interaction, to the pluralism of the theoretical orientation and to the motivation of the student as well. This historical review provides the basis for the construction of the subsequent thoughts on effective classroom management behavior.Part Two: This part concerns the basis and characteristics of effective classroom management behavior. The analysis is conducted from two aspects: The first is an analysis of the theoretical base of effective classroom management behavior from the point of view of the related studies such as sociology, cultural study, psychology and pedagogy, focusing on the theoretical implications which these respective studies giveto the study of effective classroom management behavior. The second is an analysis of the nature and characteristics of effective classroom management behavior. According to the present study, the orientation of effective classroom management behavior possesses the characteristic of pluralism, with quality at its core, and with scientific management methods and group support as its guarantee.
