In this dissertation, the author developed a new theory of "the regional development of competitive sports in China" and explored its mode on the basis of the theory of regional science, using methods of reference-review, expert-interview, logical-demonstration, questionnaire-survey and mathematical-statistics.First, the author discussed such concepts as the region, the construction, and comprehensive strength of competitive sports. Then, he established and verified a system of indicators on the evaluation of the comprehensive strength of competitive sports using unique statistical processing. There were three groups of primary indicators of the system, which included the strength manifestation and the structural state of competitive sports, the inner developing potential of competitive sports, and the environmental motivation. It also included several secondary indicators. By introducing the differential function, the author analyzed the degree of coordinate development of the three groups of primary indicators on competitive sports inside the same province. It revealed that it is Shanghai that occupied the first seat (94.77) and Tibet the last (10.16) according to their comprehensive strengths of competitive sports. Liaoning, Beijing and Shanghai were the first three according to their strength manifestation and structural state of competitive sports. Jiangxi, Guangdong and Shandong were the first three according to their inner developing potential of competitive sports, and Shanghai, Beijing and Guangdong were the first three according to their environmental motivation. In the degree of coordinate development inside the same province, Jiangxi, Liaoning and Beijing belonged to the last three while Zhejiang, Shandong and Guangxi belonged to the first three. As a developing country, which has a broad territory and a large population, there are great regional differences in China in the process of developing her competitive sports. These regional differences take the form of marked gradient characteristics in the three districts of the east, middle and the west. It is to say that there is a high degree of development in the east, an average degree in the middle and a low in the west. The regional differences are manifested in particular in the comprehensive strength of competitive sports, the contribution in the Olympic Games and the results in the National Sports Games etc. In addition, as the total strength of the national competitive sports becomes more and more strong, these differencesbetween the west and the east and middle are increasing. There appear differences between the south and the north in the event-structure and the level and speed of the development. And differences also exist among different provinces. The reasons for the regional differences include the natural and geographical conditions, the economical and social development, human resources and the degree of sports industrialization, these factors contact and influence each other, and cooperate in the regional development. The work on the distribution of the sports events has made great achievements, strongly guarantee the carrying out of the plan of the Olympic honor, there are, however, various kinds of problems. We should follow such principles as aim, whole, feedback, scientific, regional predominance, dynamics and relative optimization. The moving mechanism of sports-events distribution refers to the structure and function of the factors affecting these movements and their interrelations in their regularly movements of the distribution of the sports events and also refers to the process and principles for these factors to come into effect. The organic system of the sports-event distribution has dynamic, integrating, motivating, controlling and guaranteeing mechanisms. We should follow the route of non-balance, sustainable development in the regional development of competitive sports in China. We should follow "the reversed U hypothesis" in the process of economic, social and competitive sports development. Besides, we should...
