The importance of environmental education has been widely recognized by all walks of life because of the aggravation of environmental crisis. Many countries not only regard environmental education as an important content of educational revolution but also developed many kinds models of environmental education,and the school has been always the main channel of environmental education.The goal and the content of environmental education are very extensive. The goals at least comprise of recognition,skill,attitude and participation,etc. The approaches of environmental education include:education about the environment,education in the environment,and education for environment. These approaches contribute reflect the difference goal of environmental education. Usually,curricula are focus of school environmental education by which to infiltrate to multi-disciplinary. This educational pattern creates too little opportunity for students to get closely to nature and to take part in decision-making. Such environmental education concentrates in knowledge teaching but pays little attention to attitude developing and activity shaping. The integrity of above three approaches of environmental education is also an idea divorcing from practice,let alone the integrity of the goals of environmental education. Thus environmental education is limited in the classrooms but isolated from the society. Even if being educated,the students have low environmental consciousness. They have not enough capability to deal with the environmental problem or assimilated by those people who are not friendly to environment. As a pattern of environmental education,the existing green school doesn't cover the activities of whole school. It is only operated by activities of part teachers and part students. Themeasure to improve school environment is obvious weak,the training of teacher is too little.These problems mentioned above reflected obstacles from school education ideas and school management system to environmental education. Obviously,the present situation of environmental education cannot adapt to the requirement of sustainable development. To deal with these problems,the study tries to establish a whole school model of environmental education with introduction of ISO 14001 environmental management system. On the one hand,school is required to pay attention to their environment and environmental education by external causes such as national curriculum,environmental laws and regulations,and etc. On the other hand,the principles of ISO 14001 as a systematic approach are needed to improve environment and environmental education in schools. Because of the difference between schools and enterprises,it is not realistic to complement environmental management system completely. The key of introduction of ISO 14001 is to use basic principles of environmental management system for reference. So the process of introduction of ISO 14001 is that of reform and creation of it.The whole school model of environmental education will be operated according to the circle of Plan-Do-Check-Act. The pilot project,which was described completely in the paper,took emphasis on developing approaches of whole-school-oriented environmental education. Environmental review operated by all players of school,aims to check the problems of environmental education and environmental management in school. Then school environmental policy,targets and action plan are worked out in order to improve environmental education and environment. The action plan not only deals with environmental education problems as well as environmental pollution,but also with all other activities in school. So we called it schools greening. In the phase of implementation,existing approaches of environmental education such as environmental teaching in classrooms,extra-curriculum activities,etc.,have been made full use of,and the attention are also taken to teacher training,environmental improvement,communication,documentary,regulations.
