The world we live is full of contradiction and conflict, which with the further development of our market economy and the globalization, will become more complex and multiplicate. The conflict of mankind comes from the objectively existed diversity of man's different interest demands and different understanding of the world. It cannot be avoided in life. Conflicts either can be the blasting fuse of antagonism, hatred and war, or it can be converted into the strength of creating a new world. Dialogue is a magical key in solving the problem of conflict. Through dialogue, we share and enrich our individual knowledge about the world and our understanding of content. Through dialogue, we link and combine different ideas, therefore, we can look at the society, the others and ourselves in a new angle, discover different benefits, and understand better ways of living together. Not all the dialogues can achieve the desired results. Many people have the desire to express or exchange ideas through dialogue, but they have poor ability in making a dialogue. So we must have a good training on people's ability of dialogue (including dialogue intention, dialogue spirit, dialogue moral, dialogue skill, etc.). The task of schools is to foster the future citizen for the society, so it should take 'the ability of dialogue' as one of its educational objectives. Dialogue should be a kind of methods in teaching and learning. It should be the common value and basic principle of the whole school education. We should create a school dialogue culture and make the students developed as a citizen in this culture. This dissertation is based on the author's long term research on the teaching practice of the Japanese Social Studies and her experimental study together with the primary and secondary school teachers. It uses the research on the theory of dialogue and dialogue instruction in the philosophical social science and the theory of citizen education for reference, expounding the meaning of dialogue instruction in citizen education and the implementation strategies of dialogue instruction. The dissertation consists of four chapters:Chapter one starts with the analysis on different definitions of dialogue. It collects, analyses and comments on the existing research work of dialogue and dialogue instruction. Based on these works, the author gives her own definition of dialogue and dialogue instruction.Chapter two expounds and proves the meaning of dialogue instruction from three sides. The first one is the objective meaning of dialogue, or the meaning of having the formation of dialogue ability as one of the objectives of citizen education. The second one is the method meaning of dialogue, or the meaning of having dialogue as the method of constructing the students' social knowledge (including the facts knowledge and the value knowledge). The third one is the value meaning of dialogue, or the meaning of having dialogue, like the democracy and the equity, as the common value and basic principle in school education, and form the meaning of dialogue culture in school. Then, through positive and negative cases and from the teaching material development and classroom teaching aspects, chapter three and chapter four illustrate the effective strategy and method on implementing the dialogue instruction and their meaning. Chapter three is about the teaching material development which mainly deals with the teacher-oriented teaching material development and the expert-oriented textbook compiling. Chapter four is about the guiding strategy of classroom dialogue which states the dialogue between the student and the text, the student and the others, the student and himself/herself.The breakthrough of this dissertation lies in: ?Providing a new viewpoint for reconstructing the curriculum (social studies curriculum and moral curriculum) whose goal is to cultivate the citizen aptitude, using the theoretical and practical research work of dialogue and dialogue instruction. ?Providing an operational method, approach and instrument for the effective implementation of dia...
