The dissertation wants to research the history of Chinese school motto and announces the relationship between the motto and the education in order to reflect the development of Chinese education.The motto containing traditional culture and embodying the spirit of the times changed during 100 years step by step,and it altered with the change of Chinese education and reflected the great course from traditional times to modern times of Chinese education.The research of the history of motto isn't much or not to explain the relationship between the motto and the education,so the thesis will attempt to do. This is the unique point of the thesis that reflects the change of the education from that of the motto itself.It has important historical and realistic meanings.In the thesis,there are many methods,such as the historical documents method,the comparative method,the linguistic analysis method,the individual cases analysis method,etc.The research observes the history of the motto and the relationships between the motto and traditional culture and Chinese education,reveals the motto is one of important parts of systems of Chinese school education through those methods.The first,second,third chapters interpret the motto how to originate,how to appear,how to develop.In ancient Chinese schools,especially in Academy Age,there was the model of the motto,but no the explicit concept of the motto.Since Modern Age,the Missionary University drew the entity of the motto into China.It was a pity that the entity didn't bring to our scholars' attention. After the Sino-Japanese War, the concept of the motto was brought into our country and fixed in Chinese name.Our ancient motto was influenced by the concept of Japanese motto and the entity of the motto of the Missionary University,and transformed into the modern motto gradually.The motto became one of means of school education, was elevated into one of school systems.Of course,the motto highlighted Chinese traditional culture in content and form.The Chinese and Western mottos had differences in guiding ideology and the forms of expression.
