This dissertation explains ideal society how people can lives as a groups inhamony from the aspect of "community".Logically, Xunzi's community thought can be divided into three aspects asfollows: "what is community", "why people are in community" and" how toget community". This dissertation emphasizes on the aspect "how to getcommunity", which is the question how people can live as a groups in hamony:explicit division and moral division, rite and law, human nature theory, learningand music and the views of value.The principle of the Community's existence is "the explicit division" and"moral division for harmony". "Division" is the base of existence ofCommunity's order. The establishment of social order lies in "the explicitdivision" and "the moral division". Xunzi brings forward explicitly "the ideasof explicit division for grouping" and "moral division for harmony". "Theexplicit division for getting Community" means ranks of superior and junior andsocial ethic, which can lead to a tangible social order. The relations betweenMonarch and Liegeman and Father and Son are bases of Community's order.Xunzi's "moral division for harmony idea" indicates the necessary of moralityand justice principle when Community's harmony is acquired. From moralityand justice point, Saint and Monarch are embodiments of "moral division" while"Monarch and Liegeman" and "Father and Son" relations fulfill program of thisidea. Teacher and learner are the protector of morality and justice.The social norm of Community is rite and rule. The realistic standardcontents of righteousness is a rite. From turning outside of righteousness, the riteis the spirit of the righteousness. The separation of the righteousness issubstantially a separation of rite. It requires person of knowing, guarding andsaluting rite. As far as the rite in the system of Xunzi's thought is concerned, thedefinition of person was of rite and righteousness. There is no natural person whocan escape the crowd and keep independent. The realistic guarantee of the abilityto "community" is that person can use rite and law. If say the necessity of"community" lies in the person's existence; "the way of rite and righteousness" isthe value and the norm foundation of "community". Rite exerts person's ability to "community" from four aspects, which are "training", "separation", "textdecoration" and "reason" with rite. Rite and law are both used heavily whenmanage the community. Rite and law have function to keep community order, butrite and law apply respectively of crowd and scenario. Rite emphases particularlyon the community, and its function is that changes the nature from education. Thefunction of law laid particular emphasis on punishment.The basis of the Community's nature is evil nature and heart. From thetheory of logic, Xunzi's theory of evil nature is very meaningful. If agrees withthe original nature, the person will become the reverse side of"community". Theperson can become community since they can reform and control human naturewith righteousness and law. From the vast meaning, the human nature theory ofXunzi contents nature, heart, feeling and desire. The "heart" of sense is themedium from which can realize "person ability of community". The personchanges the natural condition into society feeling from controlling the naturewith rite and duty. When thinks about how to cure "heart", Xunzi puts forwardthe theory of "focusing on one and keeping quiet" and "sincerity". "Curingheart" is for the sake of the assurance of realizing rite and righteousness tocontrol and reform human nature.The spritual gnader of Community is Learning and "music". Learning andmusic mainly regard to the person's inside mind order and the structure of theperson's spiritual world. Xunzi thinks that the study and music are "changingthe nature from education" substantially. It is not only a kind of process ofaccumulation but also a process of knowing, keeping, acting the rite. It is notonly the problem of moral cognition, but also puts into practice of morals. Formusic, Xunzi thinks that music must abide by rite and make individual accustomto accumulation. That is to say, music can overcome evil dirty spirit and cultivatepersonal social emotion. It combines the beauty and kind. Another function ofmusic is that it not only can make person comprehend each other, communicateemotion and moderate behavior but also can make interperson harmonious. Itcan start to set up harmonious atmosphere from the bottom of heart and makepeople feel easy in the social order resulted in rite.The vaule of Community lies in the three differentiations, which are sky andHuman, Human and Animal, Community and Self. "People can come to be Community", which exists in the views of value. The differentiation betweensky and man makes Xunzi's theory emphosize on man not sky. The status andway of person isn't from sky. The sky gives the natural nature to people but rite.makes it change. Rite changes person's natural nature into virtue. The essentialof "Community" is the sociality, which is embodied not only in debate between"Human" and "Animal", but also in debate between "Community" and "Self".Xunzi expounds human's valuableness from man's three characteristics"differentiation", "community" and "rite and faith". He emphasizes on theimportance of man's virtue and his intellectuality. As for the "Community" and"Self" relations, the contemporaneous Mo(墨家), Law(法家)and Tao(道家)have gone to other extreme respectively. Mo and Law emphasize only on"Compatibility", and Tao takes "Singleness", while Confucianism has aall-sided value pursuit comparatively. Just like Confucius and Mencius, Xunzithinks that conceptions of "cherishing oneself" and "cherishing community" areunified. Both "individual value and community value" and "self fulfilling andsocial stability" are unified as a whole. As for him, the community's value ismore important than the individual value, and the self fulfilling is ultimately ledto the community's identity. Xunzi has the most elaborate explanation on theidentity of community's value.
