Both Soviet Union and China have ever witnessed the great influence of Pedagogy by Kaiipob. However, it underwent quite different fates in these two countries. In Soviet Union, its circulation has been accompanied by instant and constant criticisms ever since its first appearance in 1948, which is followed by its withdrawal from Soviet's system of education. However, it has entrenched itself influentially in China, where its grounding is still omni-present even after fifty years. Consequently we are confronted with "Teratology of Pedagogy by Kaiipob".This dissertation launches a multi-dimensional probe into the different fates of Pedagogy by Kaiipob via focusing on "Teratology of Pedagogy by Kaiipob". Here a comparison and contrast is initiated diachronically about the book in both Soviet Union and China, as well as its different treatments received in these two countries. The Russian Empire of Czars had established pedagogic theories uniquely of Russian style, which is approbated by academic circles in Russia. After the establishment of Soviet Union, pedagogic theory was considered to be an integration of humanism and communism that guide educational practice in Soviet Union. When it came under the rule of Starlin, everything can not shake them off the domination of ideology, from which Pedagogy by Kaiipob was born as an adaptation to eradicate humanism in education. In the wake of the collapse of Starlin model of education, Soviet Union steered the study of national educational theory towards a traditional track where pedagogic theories uniquely of Soviet Union style—an integration between communism and humanism followed the abandonment of Pedagogy by Kaiipob. In China, Pedagogy by Kaiipob got firmly grounded enough almost overnight into a model because of social and ideological forces as well as the similarity between its underlying concepts of education with those beheld by traditional Chinese pedagogy, The influences from Pedagogy by Kaiipob die very hard after round of reflection, series of efforts made constantly after Cultural Revolution in China. The dissertation here digs further for the driving forces behind different fates of the book Pedagogy by Kaiipob, namely, volatility in Soviet Union but longevity in China. Here it is not only analyzed as a cultural phenomenon, it also triggers some inquiries to provoke further thought and reflection.
