Study On Model Of Citizenship Education In The United States

With quick development of modernization in China, citizenship education is more and more necessary to the era. Because citizenship education is implemented later, now the system of citizenship education isn't built in China. In consideration of the fact, we should know about, understand and learn from foreign citizenship education critically. America is one of the nations which implement citizenship education earliest in the world and has fruitful experience of theory and practice which is worth researching and learning for us in the process of impelling citizenship education.This thesis explores into the change of American citizenship education with the transformation of Liberalism since the building of the state and analyzes the models of citizenship education. Liberalism dominates America since the beginning of the state. Nevertheless, American Liberalism changes with the variety of situation and has various meanings in different period. Accordingly, citizenship education model is different with the change of the meaning of liberalism. This thesis establishes different citizenship education models by generalizing and synthesizing the practice in USA. This thesis examines the background, idea, content, approach and outcome of citizenship education in each model.This thesis is comprised of seven sections. American citizenship education focuses on educating responsible and active participative citizens who have global consciousness.Social Action model of citizenship education was taken in the United States.Chapter 6 analyzes the characteristics of American citizenship education and discusses citizenship education in China.
