Research On The Ideology Control Of The Universities In New Times

The ideology issue has been the point of discussion for a long time during which new ideas constantly emerge. The issue of ideology Control,as the pivotal point deciding the success of the practice of ideology, runs through the whole process of the emergence and development of ideology issue. Nowadays, profound changes including marketization, globalization and popularization of networks are happening inside and outside China People's concepts and thinking patterns are comprehensively impinged on and changed, which imposes great challenges to our ideological field and the traditional way of the ideology control. Colleges and universities, which occupy a special and indispensable position in the social development, are increasingly becoming the foreland of the interaction of various ideas and ideological struggle and also the strategic place where western capitalist countries contest Chinese young people by the way of ideological penetration. In the wave of globalization, the universities encounter the carnival of various kinds of ideas and ideological trends. How to strengthen the ideology control of the universities (viz the subject) in an effective way for the purpose to stick to the dominant status of Marxism? It has been a pressing problem that entails focal research and serious treatment.Based on the reality of the universities, this article, with reference to the ideological theory of Marxism and the theory of ideology control inside and outside the country, sticks to the methodology of historical materialism and dialectical materialism on the research of the ideology control of the universities. It, on the basis of the overall perspective on the present situation of the ideology control of the universities, with the functions of ideology as the starting point and how to strengthen the ideological control of universities as paramount, analyzes the expansion of universities'functions in new times and the reality of the ideology control of the universities and the reasons. This article, grounded on the analysis of the theory of ideology control inside and outside the country, mainly discusses the principles that should be adhered to, major tasks and routing options in the ideology control of the universities. The text consists of three parts, namely the introduction, the body including five chapters and the conclusion.The introduction part mainly elucidates the foundations and significance of the subject and introduces and then comments on the present research situation of the subject. What's more, the logical structure, main points and research methodology are also illuminated in this part.Chaper1 develops the discussion in three aspects: the connotations and functions of ideology, the understanding of the ideology control and the relationship holding between the ideology control and the construction of socialist ideology. The article analyzes and points out that the ideology control refers to the fact that a state and the party in power, in the interest of ruling class, bring the ideology and culture under firm control, by which the dominant position of ideas, culture, concepts and morality representing the interest and will of the ruling class in the ideological field is guaranteed. For the fact that the ideology control respects people's freedom of thought in a certain scope, the ideology control can not be equated to the thought control. The socialist ideology control is based on the freedom of thought, the purpose of which coincides with the pursuit of people's overall development and wider freedom. In new times, socialist ideology control is confronted with great challenges, which demands the reinforcement of the construction of socialist ideology. Yet, it can not go without resort to the ideology control, which is the indispensable way to strengthen the construction of socialist ideology. In the construction and control and socialist ideology, the ideology control of the universities occupies a special position and possesses distinguished features.Chapter2 mainly discusses three issues: the role that our universities play in the ideology control in new times, the present situation of the ideology control of universities and the reasons and the importance as well as urgency to strengthen the ideology control of universities. In new times(the era of knowledge economy), the basic functions of universities are newly expanded by the establishment of its central status in the social development. The expansion of basic functions enables universities to have radiated effect upon the mainstream of ideology in the full range of society and exert great influences on the socialist material progress construction, cultural and ideological construction and stable development of society in a deep way and then affect the development of the whole society. Confronted by the strike of globalization, marketization and networks, cultural diversification brought by the former one, the diversification of interests caused by social transition and the lateralization of public opinion brought by the latter one emerge. The emergence imposes challenges on the ideological field of universities and the traditional way of ideological control such as the fade-out of the dominant ideology, the deviation of value orientation, moral crisis and severe utilitarianism. These challenges are imposed not only upon universities but also upon the legality of the administration of the Party and the government. What hide behind these challenges are the increasing deepening of"peaceful evolution"implemented by western capitalist countries and the appearance of crisis in our ideological field. In the face of challenges, the traditional way of ideology control of universities is still playing a major role and ideological and political education still serve as the major way of ideology control, yet exerting an impact on campus culture and news media in a superficial way. Problems have emerged and what need to be carried out are feedback control against results and preventative control aiming at the avoidance of problems in the future, which is necessary as well as pressing.Chapter3, first of all, sums up the theories concerning about ideology control since the founding of People's republic and clarifies the disputes between various theories. It holds the point that the attitude to trivialize or overemphasize is wrong , neither of which is advisable. On the issue of ideology control,both the extreme and conservative ways should be abandoned. Instead, we should stick to the principle of moderation, which requires us neither to go back to the old way of class struggle nor to exaggerate the pursuit of democracy and freedom. Secondly, through the analysis of relevant ideology control theories of western Marxists such as Gramsci, Louis Althusser and Herbert Marcuse, it enlightens that a correct understanding of the importance of the ideology control of the universities is needed and much more weight should be attached to the strategies of ideology control and the dominant status of the subject of ideology. Finally, the characteristics of the ideology control of western universities are summarized and also a revelation is achieved: the nature of unconsciousness of ideology control should not be ignored; strength in all fields of society should be made full use of to carry out the ideology control; great importance should be attached to the theoretical research and experiments of ideological control. In such a way, the theoretical foundation is laid for the effective ideology control of the universities.Chapter4 discusses the basic principles and primary tasks of the ideology control of the universities in new times. Based on the analysis of the characteristics of ideology, the ideological subject of the universities and networks, the basic principles that should be adhered to are summarized as follows: initiative, reorganization, tolerance and the respect to the rules of dissemination of news. And the primary tasks include: insisting on the theoretical innovations following the steps of development; strengthening the ideological education of universities; integrating various battlefields of public opinions and providing proper guide; enhancing cultural constructions of universities and the education as well as supervision of overseas students. The formulation of four principles and five tasks provides norms and directions for the research on the routes to carry out ideology control of the universities.Chaper5 explores the routing options of ideology control of universities. The"Three-In-One"ideology control system is put forward. In this system,"Three"refers to ideological and political education, the construction of culture and news media."One"refers to one common purpose, which is to implement Marxism in ideological field; persevere in and consolidate the dominant status of Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thoughts of Three Represents in our ideological field; standardize and direct various kinds of non-Marxist ideologies; resolutely oppose and strike all kinds of anti-socialist ideology. Meanwhile, the feasibility of this system needs to be guaranteed by constructing the support system consisting of the support from ideology, material, manpower and institution. Under the feasible"Three-In-One"system of ideology control of universities, the routes that can be selected flexibly to carry out the ideology control of the universities are listed as follows: feedback plus preventative control, tangible plus intangible control and macro plus micro control. It is not the quantizer criterion but the value standards that are employed to measure the effects of the ideology control of universities. Firstly,the principle to stick to the dominant status of the mainstream ideology is the most basic value standard. Then, the popularization of the mainstream ideology (the acquisition of rational authority of ideology) is a deep and important value standard. In addition, the harmony achieved in the ideological field is another deep value standard. An initial exploration about the strategies to carry out ideology control of the universities is made in the last part of this chapter. The research mainly aims at figuring out how to carry out ideology control within limits and with the emphasis on solving practical problems. Furthermore, the basic strategies of people-oriented ideological and political education are also studied in this part. This chapter is the pivot and foothold of the whole paper.The conclusion points out that we should look at the issue of ideology control of the universities from a dynamic and developmental perspective. The constantly changing reality, on the one hand, determines that ceaseless adjustments to the ideology control must be made to meet actual needs. On the other hand, it also determines that the research on the ideology control of the universities is a long-term project.
