The Relationship Among Health Behavior Knowledge, Health Motivation, And Exercise Behavior Of College Students In Southern Taiwan

The purpose of the research was to investigate the relationship among health behavior knowledge, health motivation and exercise behavior of college students in southern Taiwan. Random sampling was conducted and 1,131 samples were included in the research. Data were collected with the instruments of Health Behavior Knowledge Scale (HBKS), Health Motivation Assessment Questionnaire (HMAQ) and Exercise Behavior Scale (EBS). The results were as follows:1.The mean on Health Behavior Knowledge Scale was 6.72 (SD=2.07).2.The mean on Health Motivation Assessment Questionaire was -14.92 (SD=15.37). In HMAQ, the subjects who are female, senior and education major scored higher.3.There was positive correlation between health behavior Knowledge and health motivation (r=0.58,p<0.05). The weekly exercise frequency and health behavior Knowledge were negative correlation (r=-0.22,p<0.05). There was positive correlation between the depth of exercise and health behavior knowledge (r=0.47,p<0.05). Health motiovation and regular exercise habit (r=0.20,p<0.05), health motivation and the depth of exercise(r=0.39,p<0.05), both had positive correlations. In addition , weekly exercise frequency and health motivation were negative correlation (r=0.-36,p<0.05).According to the results and findings of the study , the researcher concluded that the curriculum of physical education should include athletic and health knowledge. Dietetic habit and knowledge , training motion and motive and cordiality culturist should also be comprised.The research result could be provided to colleges in southern Taiwan as reference for design their own curriculum of physical education.
