What exists is reasonable, so is the existence of the university. The logic of the university, namely, the rationality of the existence and development of the university, lies in its social value. The logic of the university teachers depends on the logic of university. The social value of contemporary university has decided its mission, which in turn defines the social mission of university teachers, including academic mission (the core mission) and service mission (the derivative mission). Since the middle Ages, modern university has developed from performing a single mission to a multiple level mission. Accordingly, the social mission of university teachers has also developed from unitary to diversity, implanting modernity into the traditional academic character of contemporary university teachers. Academic character is the sole internal credentials for university teachers undertaking great social mission. Ideal academic personality is the cornerstone for university teachers to fulfill their social mission effectively. The present study attempts to construct an ideal academic personality for contemporary university teachers, which takes academic morals as the axle, the unification of academic and personal charm as the connotation, while integrating classicality and modernity, adaptation and surmounting, the spirit of reality and ideality, the social value and practical value, non-utilitarian and the revolutionary utility, academic and the service function as the guidance.Academic or profound knowledge is the essence of university. Noble academic personality is unique professional feature of university teachers. However, recent years have witnessed repeated academic corruption, academic misconduct and academic anomie. Such phenomena reveal that some university teachers are increasing affected by severe utilitarianism and that their noble intellectual spirit and academic personality are degrading, which can be regarded as the warning of the loss or declination of modern university spirit. "The hope of vitalizing a nation lies in education; the hope of vitalizing education lies in teachers". The hope of vitalizing university lies in reshaping the academic personality of modern university teachers. The present study is conducted from the perspective of the social mission of contemporary university teachers, attempting to find evidence from the formation of the academic personality of traditional Chinese teachers and from the thinking on the academic personality of modern western countries university teachers, so as to provide a systematic exposition to the supposed academic personality of contemporary university teachers, resulting in the core conclusion-the basic meanings of the academic personality of contemporary university teachers:the integration and reunification of academic charm and personality charm. A rational analysis of the "alienation" and the "so-called alienation" of the academic personality is conducted to provide a theoretical guiding principle and practical evidence. Under the guidance of system theory, beyond epistemology, political theory and philosophy of life on higher education, the present study proposes that a harmonious Philosophy of Higher Education should be built on the basis of the logical starting point of "people·university·society system harmonious coexistence", which may lead to the reshaping the ideal academic personality of contemporary teachers and highlighting the unification of Chinese characteristics and modernity. Several strategies on remolding the contemporary university teachers'academic character are put forward on the basis of combining the spirit of reality and ideality, integrating academic charm and personality charm, as well as emphasizing intrinsic generation and external maintenance.
