Practical character, which is one of the significant characters of Chinese course, was indifferented, misunderstood and distorted in the Chinese course design and teaching practice in the past, so Chinese education quality was very poor. Based on examining the ontology of Chinese course, this dissertation verifies that Chinese course had strong practicality from theory dimension and historical dimension. After examining and anatomizing the losing phenomenon of practical character in Chinese course, the dissertation constructs "eco-practical" Chinese course designing and practice model, which can develop the practical character of Chinese course.There are six sections in the dissertation:Introduction will explain the reason for the topic choosing,the present situation of the topic and the aims and meaning for the research. In the end, this section points out the idea of research method.Chapter 1. examining the ontology of Chinese course. By exploring the origin and branch of word's "Chinese " meaning and criticizing the Nature of Chinese Language, this chapter will investigate the ontological question:what is Chinese course. The "Chinese" in Chinese course refers to "parole"/"speech", not "language", which is combined with oral speech and writen language. Chinese course, whose essencial character is instrumentality, is a basic cultural course for training students to understand and use their mother language, which can help strudents to master language as a tool. To make clear the ontology of Chinese course is the precondition for judging practical character of Chinese course. Chapter 2. Theoritical explaination and connotation of practical character of Chinese course. Practical character of Chinese course, whose connotation is that the aim of Chinese course is to forster the language competence of students, refers to the strong practicality of Chinese course, but Chinese language competence has to rely on the practice of Chinese. So Chinese course should emphasize Chinese language practice. As for Chinese course's practicality, this chapter will explain it from philosophy, linguisitcs, pychology and pedegogy.Chapter 3. Historical view of practical character of Chinese course. "Practical character of Chinese course" is not only a theoritical statement, but a realistic problem.In the ancient, during the practice of Chinese teaching, our ancestors had accumilated some experience for practicality of Chinese learning, such as "studying earnestly and thinking carefully", "writing frequently and correcting timely","diligent learning and repeated practicing". Unfortunately, most of the time, they practised the Chinese teaching undirectionally, or taught Chinese beyond the reality. Under the guidance of modernization and scientification, practical character of modern Chinese course extended a lot, but in some degree it was losing too. We can learn from other countries whose practical character of language course was emphasized during the language teaching. Acoording to looking back the history, it is clear that only is the practical character mastered, the Chinese education can be practised effectively.Chapter 4. Analyzing the losing phenomenon in Chinese course. This chapter will examine and analyze the losing phenomenon from two aspects:Chinese material of instruction and Chinese teaching and learning. Material of instruction, which are selected from traditional document, usually ignore the practical character of language course. There are some deficiency in the exercise design of Chinese material of instruction. As for teaching and learning, the losing phenomenon of practical character in Chinese course can be classfied into three types:suffering from indifference, transfiguration and dissimilation, emptiness and narrowness. There are many reasons for the losing practical character in Chinese course, such as ontological dislocation of Chinese course, opinion deviation of curriculun and instruction, shortage of teaching method and curriculum design. Indifference and distoration of practical character in Chinese course are the main reasons for the poor Chinese education. Chapter 5. Reasonably shaping the practical character of Chinese course. Aiming at the losing phenomenon and reasons of practical character in Chinese course, this dissertation suggests four countermeasures:1. to make clear the nature of "experience" and instrumentality of Chinese course, and to return ontology of Chinese course.2. based on practical character of Chinese course, to construct "eco-practical" Chinese course.3. transferred "teaching-learning" paradigms of Chinese teaching into "guidance-practice", to promote effective Chinese practice,and 4.curriculum evaluation lay special stress on students' Chinese language practical competence,so that to direct to bring out practical character of Chinese course conspicuously.
