A Comparative Study On Regional Innovation Patterns Of Manufacturing Industry In Chinese Developed Areas

The manufacturing industry has played a vital role in national economy. Chinese manufacturing industry has been developing rapidly over 30 years since the reform and opening. However, the lack capacity of innovation has imposed major restriction upon the further development of Chinese manufacturing industry. In the aspect of Chinese manufacturing industry innovation, regional differences can be observed among the east, central and western regions. Facing such situation, the research on the manufacturing regional innovation patterns adopted by the most developed eastern regions has significant value.At the beginning, the essay has displayed its research idea and the main content. And then, on the basis of retrospect and comment of literatures on manufacturing regional innovation pattern gained from publications, the essay has paid more concerns on theoretical research on regional innovation and manufacturing regional innovation. Measured by innovation subjects, the patterns of manufacturing regional innovation can be divided into three kinds:endogenous innovation pattern, exogenous innovation pattern and equilibrated innovation pattern.The development patterns adopted by Wenzhou, Dongguan and Suzhou can stand for three different models:endogenous innovation pattern, exogenous innovation pattern and equilibrated innovation pattern. The analysis from the aspects of innovative environment, innovative investment fund, innovative intelligence and innovative outcomes among them shows that regional innovation capacity is greatly influenced by the ratio between foreign enterprises and local enterprises; when the ratio is approximate 1, the manufacture industry shows the best innovation performance; now, equilibrium innovation model is the best pattern in the eastern regions.By analyzing panel data of 11 eastern provinces from 2003 to 2007, this article tests the preliminary conclusion furthermore. Concrete steps are as follows:(1) using Factor Analysis methods, it evaluates their innovation ability of 11 eastern provinces; (2) the correlation between foreign/domestic enterprise ratio and innovation capacity index is tested, and the correlation between foreign/all enterprise ratio and innovation capacity index is tested simultaneously. The conclusions of empirical analyses have further proved that the preliminary conclusion is correct.In the end, based on analytical study and empirical research, this paper provides some suggestions to choose manufacturing regional innovation pattern which is suitable to this region, and further, it puts forward some national policy recommendations for promoting Chinese manufacting industrial regional innovation capacity.By studying on the manufacturing regional innovation pattern in high gradient regions, it is expected that this paper can offer some policy reference for low gradient regions which is helpful to their present and future development. Therefore, theoretical support is provided for the choice and establishment of manufacturing regional innovation pattern of China, which promotes the improvement of regional innovation capability of Chinese manufacturing industry.
